The Happiest Haunts Tour is returning to Disneyland Park for 2023 Halloween Season! Disney’s Happiest Haunts tour hasn’t been available for the last few years, and I’ve been anxiously waiting for it to come back! It is one of my favorite guided tours and is a fun way to celebrate the Halloween Season at Disneyland.  

I was lucky enough to go on the Happiest Haunts Tour at Disneyland a few years ago and it looks like the tour is going to be pretty similar to the old one. This had been on my bucket list for years! I couldn’t wait to learn about the Happy Haunts of Disneyland! On my tour we heard ghost stories, hopped between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure park and even got some special treats. There was also a commemorative pin and a special photo opp with the hitchhiking ghosts. I was given special access to Haunted Mansion Holiday as part of my tour, but it looks like this year they’re doing special access to Pirates of the Caribbean and reserved viewing for the Halloween Screams night time show!  

I’ve shared some of my favorite parts of the Happiest Haunts Tour experience below so you can know what to expect on your tour. Obviously, there’s may be some changes to this years guided tour, but this will give you an idea of what it will be like and help you decide if you should add it to your Disney parks experience.

Check-in

You will check in to your Happiest Haunts Tour at Disneyland Tour Gardens kiosk (just to the left of City Hall).  When I checked in I got a name badge, met my tour guide and chatted with the other people who would be in the tour group.  I got an earpiece which enabled me to hear the tour guide even if I wasn’t right next to her. Before the tour begins, you’ll have time to use the bathroom, and they’ll do sound checks to make sure your earpiece is working properly.  During the tour, there was music that played off and on through the earpiece in addition to the tour guide magnified voice.  It was a nice touch and helped set the perfect Halloween atmosphere.

Make sure you arrive a bit early for your tour! You want to allow time to get checked in, get your ear piece and not feel rushed before the tour begins. 

Happiest Haunts Tour Highlights

There were about 20 people in our tour group. Our tour guide walked nice and slow, so keeping up with her was not a problem.  We did lots of walking between Disneyland and California Adventure.  We made quite a few stops along the way.  At each stop, our tour guide would share a story from Disneyland’s Haunted History or a little piece of Halloween history or trivia. She told us stories of halloween traditions from around the world. I found the whole experience very enjoyable!  I love history and Halloween, so I really enjoyed this! 

We stopped at Dia de Los Muertos- Zocalo Park.  It was all deck out for Dia de Los Muertos.  I loved seeing the colorful displays and hearing about the history of Dia de Los Muertos. They served us some Pan de Muertos.  I didn’t care for it, but my husband liked it and finished it later that evening. 

Among our many stops was the Halloween window displays on Buena Vista Street in California Adventure park, the Ray Bradbury Halloween Tree in Frontierland and we spent some time in New Orleans Square. 

Our tour was supposed to include a ride on the Haunted Mansion, but it was shut down when we arrived. I’m not going to lie, I was pretty disappointed that the attraction wasn’t up and running! Didn’t the Ghost Host know I was coming? Honestly,  I was mostly looking forward to being escorted to the front of the line like a VIP, so that’s where my disappointment really came from. Our tour guide made sure to give us all a fast pass, so we could return later in the evening to ride Haunted Mansion on our own time.

While we were in California Adventure Park we made a stop by Trolley Treats.  Everyone in the tour group was thrilled when a cast member came over and gave us each a piece of pumpkin fudge.  It was my first time having pumpkin fudge and Disneyland, but it will not be my last! It was so delicious! 

The Grand Finale

We ended the Happiest Haunts tour right where we began over in Disneyland.  The tour guide had everyone sit down, collected our headpieces and passed out our fast passes for the Haunted Mansion.  She then announced that she had a special surprise and asked us to wait for a minute.  We were all pretty excited!  Who doesn’t love a special surprise? She returned and we were escorted into a back room where we were able to take pictures with the hitchhiking ghosts!  Now I felt like a VIP!

Everyone was given a special collectible pin at the end of the Happiest Haunts Tour to commemorate the experience.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed the Happiest Haunts tour at Disneyland overall.  It was fun to learn about the history of Halloween and how it has been incorporated into the parks. Any Disney history fan will love it!  My tour lasted 2 and a half hours, but it seems like the new tour will be a bit shorter.  There is a lot of walking, so be prepared for that. I thought it was the perfect way to spend a couple of hours at Disneyland during the Halloween Holiday time. 

I don’t think this tour is for everyone though.  If this is your first visit to Disneyland, skip it.  You don’t have time for a tour!  If you have young children, skip it.  I recommend the Happiest Haunts Tour for adults and children 12 and up. 

Halloween Fun At Disneyland

​The Happiest Haunts Tour isn’t the only way to enjoy Halloween time at Disneyland!  Even without the tour, there’s so much to see and do to celebrate Halloween in each different land. Halloween Time At Disneyland- Info

Halloween time at Disneyland in 2024 runs from August 23rd – to October 31st. There’s so much to see and do in each park during Halloween! From decorations, ride overlays, and character costumes, to the Oogie Boogie Bash, I’ll talk about it all so you can know what to expect and share my best tips to help you have a great time. Halloween Time At Disneyland- Discount Disney Park Tickets

This is a great option for our family because I love being able to just walk over to the parks and walk back to the hotel when the day is over.

Halloween Time At Disneyland- Crowds

You can expect fairly moderate crowds at the Disneyland resort during Halloween time. If you’re looking for lower crowds, September is your best bet. The parks will get more crowded the closer it gets to Halloween. You’ll find the biggest crowds right before Halloween. Tuesday- Friday will have the lowest crowds of the week. Halloween night will be pretty busy, but not out of control. You’ll still be able to have a great time, even with crowds if you visit Disneyland on Halloween Day.

Halloween Time At Disneyland- Disney Lightning Lane Multi Pass

Halloween time at Disneyland brings crowds and long lines. If you’re concerned about crowds and long lines, Disney Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a great way to skip the lines on the most popular rides during the Halloween season. Genie plus is the new system that replaced the MaxPass/Fastpass system. It costs $25 per person(starting cost), per day, and includes photo pass. I’ve got a ton of information about using Disney Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disneyland that will be helpful for you. Make sure you check it out.

Halloween Time At Disneyland- Rope Dropping

Another great way to avoid crowds at Disneyland during Halloween time is to rope drop. Have you heard about rope dropping at Disneyland? It basically involves arriving at Disneyland extra early so that you’re one of the very first guests in the park. Then, you can take advantage of extremely low crowds while all the other guests are just waking up and making their way to the parks.

Rope dropping isn’t for everyone, but it is a really effective way to hit some of the more popular attractions without the long waits that you’ll find later in the day. I’ve got a ton of information on rope dropping including tips and strategies. You can find it here.

Dealing with crowds at Disneyland can be a bit annoying. I’ve spent a ton of time at Disneyland and have come up with some strategies for touring Disneyland even when it’s crowded. Halloween Time At Disneyland- Weather

Most people picture fall leaves, sweaters, apple pie and crisp fall air when they think about fall and Halloween time. Well, I don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news, but Halloween time at Disneyland is almost always crazy hot. In fact, it’s one of the hottest times of the year. So, if you have big plans to wear a cozy sweater and sip hot apple cider while you stroll down main street, you’re going to need to reconsider your plan! Halloween Time At Disneyland- What To Wear

What you wear to Disneyland during Halloween time matters. You want to be comfortable and that means planning ahead a bit. I’ve got a guide on what to what to wear to Disneyland that will help you plan for your vacation. I also like to dress for the season and that means a cute Disney Halloween shirt. You can find some really cute, inexpensive ones on Amazon.

Characters

Your favorite Disney characters will be out and about in their Halloween costumes! If you thought Mickey Mouse was cute, what until you see him in his Halloween costume! I love getting some photos with the characters. You can also expect to see a few more Disney villains roaming Disneyland, especially around Main Street USA and Fantasyland. If you’re wondering where to find characters, I’ve got you covered. Here’s a guide to finding characters at Disneyland that will help you easily locate your favorites! No more wandering around aimlessly, hoping you run into them!

Haunted Mansion Holiday

Jack Skellington has taken over the Haunted Mansion and transformed it into the Tim Burton Nightmare Before Christmas! The Haunted Mansion Holiday is probably the most popular overlay that Disneyland does. I’ve got a whole episode dedicated to it on my podcast. I find this version to be less scary for little kids than the original version. It’s got lots of bright colors and fun music, so it might be ok for your little ones.

This overlay is incredibly popular! That means it’s going to have very long lines, especially as the day goes on and into the evening. Make sure you ride it earlier in the day(this is a good one to rope drop during Halloween time!) or use Lightning Lane Multi Pass to avoid the longest lines.

Main Street Pumpkin Festival

Halloween is in full swing on Main Street U.S.A. You’ll find it full of pumpkins. Make sure you get a picture with the giant pumpkin! It’s one of my favorite parts of the Halloween holiday season. The pumpkin has a different face on each side, so grab a picture with both sides!

Halloween Scream

Halloween screams is a special show hosted by Jack Skellington. This fun projection show is Halloween perfection and is followed by fireworks on select nights. I prefer to watch the show near “it’s a small world” for lower crowds.

Radiator Screams

Carsland has been transformed into Radiator Screams for the Halloween season! This is an absolutely amazing part of Halloween time at Disneyland! You don’t want to miss it! Make sure you check it out during the day and again at night. Carsland has a great vibe at night! There are even a couple of ride overlays in Carlsand that are really fun. You can find out more information here.

Halloween Decorations

California Adventure is filled with decorations. Bats have taken over Buena Vista Street! My favorite part is the Headless Horseman statue in Town Square. It’s the perfect photo opp. Make sure you stop by and night for a peek when it’s all lit up! There’s usually a photographer there to take your picture. Don’t forget, photo pass is included with Genie plus! So, if you purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, make sure you take advantage of the photographers all over the park.

Guardians of the Galaxy– Monsters After Dark

Guardians of the Galaxy is transformed into Monsters After Dark every afternoon. Check your app for show times. This is a scarier version of the attractions, but one that is so much fun! Make sure you save your lightning lane for this attraction for later in the day if you’re using Lightning Lane Multi Pass and want to skip the long lines!

Plaza de la Familia

Celebrate Dia de los muertos at the Plaza de la Familia. There’s so much to see and do here! Enjoy live entertainment, specialty food items, and free crafts for the kids! You can even enjoy a musical celebration of Coco and meet Miguel!

Oogie Boogie Bash

The Oogie Boogie Bash is a special event held on select nights in September and October in California Adventure. This special event requires a separate ticket. If you’re interested in attending, you can find all the information you need to know on my Oogie Boogie Bash post. It includes party dates and prices, what to expect and costume guidelines.

My favorite parts of the Oogie Boogie Bash are the Trick or Treat trails(expect to get a ton of candy!), the fun parade, and Villians Grove. It really is such a fun event! I look forward to it every year.

This is probably the most popular of all of the Disney special events. Tickets for this event will sell out! They go on sale on June 27th for Magic Key holders and June 29th for the general public.

Halloween Time Food and Beverage

Disneyland goes all out with special Halloween food this time of year! It’s so much fun to see all the yummy creations that they come up with! I love going around and trying all the Halloween food and treats! Each year, Disneyland releases a Halloween Foodie guide. I take this guide and create a cute printable! This way, you can print it out, circle the things you want to try, and check them off as you go along. Kids especially love to check items off of the list. I’ll update this for 2024 when the foodie guide is released! You can find my free Halloween printables here.

Downtown Disney at Halloween Time

Downtown Disney has lots of fun things going on at Halloween time! You can expect to find Halloween decorations and lots of specialty food items. I love to check out the different seasonal flavors at Salt and Straw! They are so yummy!

As you can see, there’s so much to see and do at Halloween time at the Disneyland Resort. Because there’s so much going on, it’s a very popular time to visit. So, you can expect larger crowds. But, just because it might be a bit crowded on your vacation to the happiest place on earth, doesn’t mean that you can’t have an amazing time!

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is my favorite time to visit. Well, honestly anytime at the Disneyland Resort theme parks is a good time. However, if I can combine Disneyland with my favorite holiday(Halloween), I’m a happy girl! The decorations, festive foods, entertainment and overall atmosphere are incredible! I love everything about this time of year and making a visit to Disneyland makes it all the more magical!

There are so many events to enjoy at Halloween Time at Disneyland. You won’t want to miss anything! Disneyland Park

Here’s what you can expect to find at the Disneyland park during the Halloween season.

Characters

What could be better than the characters at Disneyland? Characters wearing their Halloween costumes of course! Many of the classic characters will be out and about in their Halloween attire and they couldn’t be cuter! Make sure you stop by and say “hello!” to Mickey Mouse and his friend Minnie Mouse!

You’ll see all sorts of villains out mingling with guests and you can even see the Pumpkin King Jack Skellington and his good friend Sally from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. You’re sure to spot your favorite characters! Have your camera ready because they’re ready and willing to pose with you for pictures!

On certain nights you may be able to meet the Hitch Hiking Ghosts or Constance Hatchaway, the bride from the Haunted Mansion on New Orleans Square. I love seeing these rare characters in the parks! Check the app or ask a cast member about meeting them!

Haunted Mansion Holiday

Jack Skellington has taken over the Haunted Mansion and has redecorated with festive touches inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Although I prefer the original, Tim Burton fans will love this holiday overlay. I also find it to be less spooky than the original and may not be as frightening for small children as the original version can be.

Notice the giant gingerbread house on the table in the ballroom scene! That’s an actual gingerbread house that’s created each year for the Disneyland Halloween festivities. Make sure you take a deep breath when you pass the ballroom to smell the gingerbread! You can find the Haunted Mansion Holiday in New Orleans Square.

This year, the only way to ride Haunted Mansion Holiday is to get into a virtual queue. Because of construction going on around Haunted Mansion, Disney is controlling crowds by using a virtual queue. You’ll have 2 chances per day to get into the queue. You’ll do this all through the Disneyland app. The first chance is at 7am. You don’t have to be inside the park to try for this virtual queue, but for the 7am time you’re starting park reservation does need to be Disneyland. Another round of virtual queue spots opens up at 12pm for this round you need to have scanned into the park for the day. You don’t have to physically be in the park, you just need to have scanned in for the day. If you’re park hopping and DCA is your starting park, you’ll want to try for the 12pm slot. 

One haunted mansion virtual queue per day, unless it’s a slow day, then you may be able to join again. 

Main Street Pumpkin Festival

Take a delightful stroll down Main Street U.S.A. to check out all of the hand-carved pumpkins! The display is pretty amazing. It’s one of my favorite things about Halloween Time at Disneyland. You’ll find pumpkins all over Main street! Each one is different. Take some time enjoying them as you stroll down Main Street U.S.A. They really are very fun and add so much to the Halloween spirit!

Make sure you have your picture taken by the giant pumpkin. One side has a smiling face, the other side has a winking face. Probably you should take a picture on both sides for good measure. Ask your photographer to do a magic shot for you for an extra dose of holiday fun! Remember, photo pass is included with Lightning Lane Multi Pass!

Halloween Screams

A frightfully fun Halloween show hosted by Jack Skellington and his ghosty dog, Zero. This 10-minute show is filled with visions of villains and haunting tunes! It’s followed by fireworks on select nights. Many people choose to skip the night time entertainment, but I always recommend people watch it if they have time.

The shows are so well done and really get you into the spirit of the season! It’s Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort at it’s very best! You can see it on the facade of the castle, the shops on main street, or on the facade of it’s a small world. Check the Disneyland app for showtimes.

I Recommend arriving at least 90 minutes early if you’re trying to get a view near the castle. 30 minutes early if you’re watching them from Main Street and 30- 45 minutes early if you’re going to watch it near “it’s a small world”. I prefer to view the show from “it’s a small world” because it’s much less crowded and you don’t have to arrive as early to get a spot.

Dia De Los Muertos

You can join in the festivities in Frontierland during this special tribute that honors loved ones that have passed. El Zócalo Park will feature iconic skeleton figurines called calacas—depicting a trio of mariachi musicians—as well as brightly colored flowers and other decorative items seen in traditional ofrendas on the Day of the Dead.

While you’re in the area, check out one of my favorite quick-service restaurants, Rancho del Zocalo. They always have a few seasonal offerings and their cinnamon chips are so good! You can find my other recommendations for quick-service restaurants here.

The Halloween Tree

Stop by the Halloween Tree in Frontierland on your visit. This oak tree is filled with jack- o lanterns and orange lights to celebrate the season. You can find the tree near the Golden Horseshoe.

The tree is inspired by the book “The Halloween Tree” by Ray Bradbury. In the story, eight costumed boys running to meet their friend Pipkin at the haunted house outside town encounter instead the huge and cadaverous Mr. Moundshroud. As Pipkin scrambles to join them, he is swept away by a dark Something, and Moundshroud leads the boys on the tail of a kite through time and space to search the past for their friend and the meaning of Halloween.

Disney’s Happiest Haunts Tour

California Adventure is bursting with Halloween fun! Here are some things I recommend checking out!

Halloween Time Decor

You’ll find festive Halloween decor around the entire park starting with Oogie Boogie’s grand marque at the entrance. Notice the black bats swarming Carthay Circle Theatre’s bell tower and the Headless Horseman statue. The Headless Horseman statue lights up at night and makes a great photo opp. Make sure you stop by for a picture! There’s so much Halloween fun on Buena Vista Street! Even the windows are decorated for the season!

Radiator Scream in Cars Land

Stop by Radiator Springs in Cars Land this Haul-O-Ween, which transforms into Radiator Screams for the season. You might even catch a glimpse of Lightning McQueen or Mater in their Halloween costumes! There’s so much Halloween magic everywhere!

Make sure to ride Luigi’s Honkin Haul-O-Ween. Check out Mater’s junkyard jamboree. It’s been transformed into Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree for the Halloween celebration! The attractions even have new soundtracks for the Halloween season that take the Halloween overlays to the next level!

Carsland is arguably the cutest themed land in any of the Disney parks worldwide. Disney really goes all out to decorate it for Halloween Time at Disneyland. It’s a must-see for sure! I recommend visiting during the day, but also again in the evening. Carsland has a whole different vibe at night that you won’t want to miss!

Make sure you notice the music playing while you’re visiting. Many of the songs have words changed slightly to fit the Halloween/cars theme. It’s such a fun touch!

Plaza de la familia

Celebrate the everlasting bonds of the family at this Dia de Los Muertos celebration! You can enjoy a Musical Celebration of Coco, meet and create special memories with the film’s main character, Miguel, and post personal messages to your loved ones on the Memory Wall.

Don’t forget to sample delicious Mexican dishes from the special event menu at Paradise Garden Grill and enjoy the live entertainment when you’re visiting!

There’s also a section set up for kids to enjoy free crafts! Make sure you check that out. Your kids will love it!

Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark

This is possibly my favorite part of Halloween time at California Adventure! If you arrive after 3:00 PM you will experience Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. During the Guardians of the Galaxy’s rescue attempt, Groot got left behind and you must help save him! The only problem is, the tower is overrun with monsters! Can you distract the monsters long enough for Rocket to save Groot?

If you’re using Genie plus, watch the time and grab a lightning lane for this attraction after 3 pm so you can experience it with a shorter wait time! Find more info on Lightning Lane Multi Pass here.

Oogie Boogie Bash

Each year Disneyland hosts the Oogie Boogie Bash at California Adventure. This is my favorite of all the special events hosted by Disney! What could be better than a Disney Halloween party? If you’re visiting for Halloween Time at Disneyland, you really should consider it.

It’s a separately ticketed event full of Disney characters in their costumes, and special effects, there’s trick or treating on an immersive treat trail and a fun parade!

Many guests choose to dress up for the Oogie Boogie Bash! It’s so fun to see everyone’s costumes. Many people really go all out! Checking out the creativity and variety of all the guest’s costumes is one of my favorite parts of the Oogie Boogie Bash.

Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is transformed into Villains Grove for the party. You just might spot your favorite Disney villains. It’s an amazingly immersive experience that guests of all ages will love!

Mickey’s Trick and Treat

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse love dressing up and celebrating Halloween with their friends, especially when Goofy and Donald Duck drop by. Things get pretty wacky when their pal Parker really gets into a silly “mad scientist” costume and brews up a potion! Soon everyone’s running from bats, spiders and ghosts—eeks!

Held in Disney Jr. Studio in DCA! Usually held 6 times per day. Check the app for show times.

Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit

Peruse Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park and the Downtown Disney District to pinpoint a pleasant patch of pumpkins and pick up a creepy keepsake—

How to join the pursuit

1. Pick up your map and stickers for $9.99 plus tax at select merchandise locations.
2. Have fun searching for hidden decorative pumpkins based on Disney characters and placing the corresponding stickers on your map.
3. Whether you choose to search for pumpkins or not, return your map to a redemption location—for a keepsake.

Halloween Time Food & Beverage

Anyone else get excited about the food at Disneyland? At Halloween time, Disney brings out some of the very best food! The sweet treats are legendary! Halloween time at Disneyland is full of amazing seasonal options. I get so excited about the treats at Halloween time, that I’ve compiled a free printable foodie bucket list so you can check off your favorites along the way! This way, you won’t miss anything! This foodie guide is from 2025, but I’ll update it for 2026 as soon as Disney releases the info!

Halloween Time At Downtown Disney

There is lots of Halloween fun to be had at Downtown Disney and you don’t even need a park ticket! You’ll find tons of Disney Halloween merchandise in the World of Disney and the other Disney shops.

Plus, there are lots of seasonal food offerings at Downtown Disney too! Make sure you stop by Salt and Straw to check out their seasonal flavors. One year they had ice cream with actual dried bugs in it! I opted to for my favorite, Sea Salt Caramel. But, my husband tried it and said it wasn’t bad!

Downtown Disney will also be decorated for Halloween time, although they won’t have the same level of decorations that you’ll find in the parks.

We enjoy visiting Downtown Disney on our arrival day. We’ll usually spend a few hours there exploring the shops and eating dinner before heading back to our hotel for the night.

Tips For Visiting Disneyland During Halloween time

Halloween Time at the Disneyland resort is very popular. It draws large crowds because it’s so much fun! Don’t be stressed about the crowds. Here’s a few tips that will really help you have a great time even when it’s crowded.

• Rope drop. If you’re able, rope drop in the morning. This will get you on some of the bigger attractions first thing in the morning and save you time later in the day. You can find out more info about rope dropping here.
• Use Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Genie plus is the new system at Disneyland that’s replaced the old fast pass system. It costs extra per person per day and includes photo pass. This really is a time saver, but can add up if you have a large family. Here’s more information on Lightning Lane Multi Pass to help you decide if it’s right for you you.
• Be prepared. Make sure you have what you need at the park! I have a whole list of things I have with me in the parks at all times here. I also have a list of things to buy on Amazon before your visit. This will save you lots of money!
• Halloween Time at Disneyland can be really hot. September/October are often the hottest months of the year at Disneyland. Here’s a guide to beating the heat at Disneyland!
• If you’re looking to save money, packing in some food to the parks is a great way to do it! I’ve got a complete list of foods that are allowed inside Disneyland here.
• Take advantage of Rider Switch if you have young children who are too small to ride the bigger rides. You can find more info about Rider Switch and height requirements here.

Party/Ticket Info

The Oogie Boogie Bash is held at Disney California Adventure Park on select nights in September and October. You can find more info here. This event is hosted by Oogie Boogie (from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas) and the Disney Villains. A special event party ticket is required. The party is from 6pm-11pm, but you can enter the Disneyland California Adventure Park beginning at 3pm.

Your separate ticket to the Oogie Boogie Bash includes your entrance into the park during themix-inn portion(3 hours before the party starts) and for the event itself. Because of this, I don’t recommend buying a park ticket that day, unless you’re really pressed for time.

Use the day to sleep in, spend time at your hotel pool and enjoy Downtown Disney. You’ll be nice and rested for the party that evening. Park guests who are not attending the Oogie Boogie Bash will be asked to leave when the actual event begins, at 6pm. If you don’t have park hopper tickets and are not attending the event, you may want to visit Disneyland that day instead.

If you are visiting California Adventure during the day and attending the party that evening, you don’t have to leave and re-enter the park at party time. Visit the Blue Sky Cellar across from Cars Land. You can show them your event ticket and get your wrist band, trick or treat bag and party map. If lines look crazy entering DCA, you can also enter the park using the Grand California entrance.

The Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland includes lots of things that are exclusive to the Oogie Boogie Bash. I’ll talk more about them below and share a recommended schedule for the party.

Parking/Lightning Lane Multi Pass

Parking is NOT included in the ticket price. Lightning Lane Multi Pass is not available and will not be running during the event.

Photo Pass

Photo Pass is included with your Oogie Boogie Bash ticket, so make sure you have the Disneyland app on your phone! Take advantage of all the photo ops and photographers around the parks.

Event Highlights

Here is a list of the special events you can enjoy while you’re at the Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland. Rides will also be available, most with a shorter than normal wait time.

Villains Grove

Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is transformed into Villains Grove for the party!

From the Disneyland website:

“Meander through scenes that reveal the bewitching worlds of popular Disney Villains—including Dr. Facilier, Frollo, Scar, the Wicked Queen and others. Make your way through the woods’ misty twists, turns and curves to see what moonlit magic awaits for adventurers of all ages!”

This was my favorite experience of the entire night! I was impressed with the immersive magic around every corner and the attention to detail. Don’t miss this! Villains Grove opens when it gets dark. Around 7:10 pm- 7:30 pm. There’s usually a long line for this, but it moves quickly.

I don’t recommend lining up early and waiting for it to open. This wastes precious party time and since the line moves quickly, it’s not necessary. Be aware, that strollers are not allowed unless they have a red tag. They need to be parked before you enter the grove.

Here’s a peek at what you can expect from Villians Grove:

• Frollo’s Sanctuary – Head into an otherworldly cathedral of trees infused with incense smells and chanting voices.
• Maleficent’s Will – Roam through a region replete with eerie ravens, thorn-spiked vines and a seemingly spellbound waterfall of cascading color!
• Queen of Hearts Garden – Wander ‘round a charming garden of roses that paint themselves red right before your eyes!
• Scar’s Elephant Graveyard – Descend into a vast expanse that echoes with hyena laughter!
• Dr. Facilier’s Friends on the Other Side – Summoned by the great beyond, shadowy hands and colorful spells lure Guests deeper into the grove’s darkest corners.
• The Wicked Queen’s Lightning Forest – See the forest come alive as an electrifying storm flashes from branch to branch.
• Home of the Wisps – Watch these winged caretakers guide Guests to safety amid a magical bastion of endless light.
• Dawn – Escape in the nick of time as flickering lanterns lead the way toward a brilliant sunrise and the conclusion of this mythical trip!

Treat Trails

Treat trails are located throughout the park. You’ll find oodles of treats and sometimes a villain to interact with! A cast member will make sure they never run out of candy, so don’t worry about that!

Most stations have a healthier option and some stations only have a healthy selection of apples, grapes, or carrots. I appreciated the attempt to balance out the candy a bit with some healthier options!

You will receive a lot of treats! You get a small trick-or-treat bag when you arrive, but it’s very small. I recommend bringing an empty backpack to put all your treats in or plan on getting a locker if you don’t want to carry it around all evening. If you need more room to hold your candy, you can ask a cast member in any shop for a bag. You’ll need a bag of some sort for the treat trails. Cast members won’t just hand you the candy. They must put it in a bag of some sort.

Here are the villains that were on the treat trails in 2024.

•  Dr. Doofenschmirtz- in the Disney Junior Theatre
• Hades- on the stage in Hollywood Land
• Judge Doom- in Hollywood Land
• Yokai- San Fransokyo Square.
• Oogie Boogie- Animation Building. 
• Ernesto de la Cruz- Hyperion Theatre Courtyard.
• Agatha Harkness- Avengers Campus in the Ancient Sanctum. 
• Syndrome-  Pixar Pier
• Maleficent- Behind Grizzly River Run

Frightfully Fun Parade

The Villains have taken over the parade and the result is nothing short of incredible! The Headless Horseman will begin his walk down the parade route at about 10 minutes before the parade begins. You won’t want to miss this!

The crowds are lower and the parade route is long, so you won’t need to grab a spot until about 20-25 minutes beforehand. The parade begins near Paradise Gardens Park. I recommend finding a spot near there so you can see the parade right as it begins and you won’t have to waste time waiting for it to arrive.

Character Sightings

Get ready for some amazing character sightings! You’ll see villains of all kinds(the Evil Queen is my favorite!), but also many others. Mickey Mouse and his pals are dressed up in their Halloween costumes! Make sure to keep your camera ready. You never know when they’ll pop up! Here’s a list of character meet and greets:

• Minnie, Daisy & Clarabelle as the Sanderson Sisters
• Bruno Madrigal
• Marvel Heroes
• Mickey & Minnie
• The Incredibles
• Pixar Pals
• Lightning & Mater
• Lotso(from Toy Story)
• Various Villains
• Classic Animated Friends

Special Decor

Halloween decor at the Oogie Boogie Bash is amazing! Unique decorations combined with lighting, music and special effects set the perfect “not so spooky” family friendly tone. The atmosphere at the party is like nothing I’ve experienced before! I almost felt like I was in a Disney movie myself.

Make sure you check out Radiator Screams(Carsland)! It is especially delightful and you won’t want to miss it. I prefer it at night when it’s all lit up!

Costumes

Dressing up isn’t just for kids! Party guests are encouraged to wear costumes to this Disneyland Halloween party! Lots of people choose to dress up for the party and many of them bring their A-game! It’s fun to see all of the great costumes people have! While anyone can dress up, there are some rules that need must be followed. Here are the guidelines from the Disneyland website:

• All Guests may dress as their favorite character, but may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other Guests.
• Costumes must be family-friendly and may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent.
• May not contain any items that resemble (or could easily be mistaken for) an actual weapon.
• Costumes may not contain sharp/pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest.
• Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening.
• Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground (e.g., full-length Princess dresses).

For Guests Ages 13 and Under

• Costumes may be worn as well as some masks, as long as the entire face isn’t covered and eyes are visible.

For Guests Ages 14 and Older

• Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.
• Themed T-shirts, blouses, sweatshirts and hats are permitted.
• Acceptable accessories include transparent wings, plastic light sabers, toy swords, and tutus.
• Headwear may be worn as long as it does not cover the face.
• Costume masks of any kind may not be worn, except for medical purposes(Covid Masks are fine).

Suggested Schedule

I want you to make the best use of your time while you are at the Oogie Boogie Bash! Lines for rides are shorter, but I recommend doing all the things exclusive to the party before you hit any rides. Here’s what I suggest:

During the “Mix In”

Arrive about 30-40 minutes early before the mix-in time begins to get a spot in line. Scan your event ticket into the Disneyland app so you’ll be ready to go! Upon entering the park each person gets a wristband and a trick or treat bag.

Check the app and pick out rides with reasonable wait times. If you want to experience Guardians of the Galaxy- Monsters After Dark save it until later. It doesn’t change over until 4 pm and will be very busy until after the regular guests have left for the day.

I recommend eating dinner during the mix-in period so you are free to eat all the candy and don’t have to waste party time eating dinner.

When the party begins

I recommend the activities in this order, but feel free to skip whatever you don’t want to do. Hit all the treat trails you find along the way to each event! Fill in extra time with, picture taking and a ride or two.

• Start on treat trails-Hit the ones with no characters or less popular characters first. Dr. Doom, Agatha or Madam Mim are great ones to start with.
• Frightfully fun parade- two show times: 7:45pm and 10:00pm. Hit the earlier parade if you can.
• Villains Grove
• Hit any treat trails you missed
• Ride a few rides(Especially Guardians of the Galaxy- Monsters After Dark!)
• If you want to meet the Sanderson Sisters, I suggest waiting until towards the end of the night. The line will be shorter then.
