Element Anaheim Resort

How Far Is Element Anaheim Resort from Disneyland?

Element Anaheim Resort is 2 blocks away from Disneyland. It was about a 10 minute walk to the Disneyland theme parks. It’s an easy walk, but also a quick Uber ride if you’d rather drive.

The property is within walking distance of the Garden Walk Anaheim, which has lots of shops and restaurants and an AMC movie theater. It’s also very close to House of Blues Anaheim, which is a popular southern-style restaurant with live music.

If you’ll be visiting the Anaheim Convention Center, you can plan on about a 20-minute walk from this property. There is no shuttle service, but Uber/Lyft are easily accessible.

The nearest airport to Element Anaheim Resort is John Wayne airport, which is about 20 minutes away. Long Beach airport is about 30 minutes away.

Rooms at Element Anaheim Resort (Suites, Kitchens & Bunk Bed Options)

I stayed in a corner room with incredible views of Disneyland! What a view! I could see the Mickey wheel, Guardians of the Galaxy, Space Mountain, and the Matterhorn all from my room. I even caught the fireworks show through my floor-to-ceiling windows one evening!

Their one-bedroom suites included kitchen areas with a dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, and stove. This is a perfect way to save some money and eat in! The beds were comfortable and the private bathroom was luxurious.

They have lots of different room types to fit any group. From a spacious studio to a kid’s suite with bunk beds, you’re sure to find the perfect room. All the rooms are suites!

Does Element Anaheim Resort Have Free Breakfast?

Element Anaheim Resort serves a complimentary breakfast buffet each morning. Their free hot breakfast buffet is impressive! Along with your standard breakfast items, I was happy to see it was filled with lots of healthy options too. This is one of the best free breakfasts around!

I enjoyed egg whites with root vegetables one morning and a cinnamon scone with fruit and yogurt another morning. Both were delicious! They also have grab-and-go options for breakfast that include things like whole fruits and granola bars for breakfast on the run.

Pool and Fitness Center at Element Anaheim Resort

The property has a wonderful 24-hour fitness center with lots of great equipment. The pool area has bbq areas and a seating area open to guests and a great pool. The outdoor pool is heated and it’s saline, which I loved because it’s so gentle on my sensitive skin.

Amenities and Extras at Element Anaheim Resort

Element Anaheim Resort has quite a few extra perks that were just the cherry on top of my already wonderful stay! Great hotel amenities are so important! They have free wi-fi internet in the guest rooms, lobby, and all public areas. The water in their kitchens is filtered. There’s a small shop next to the front desk to purchase snacks, drinks, and anything you may have forgotten. The property has 8 electric car charging stations, which is great!

Is Element Anaheim Resort Pet-Friendly?

Element Anaheim Resort is a pet-friendly hotel! Two pets 40 lbs maximum are allowed per room. There is an additional pet fee that is charged.

It’s that time of year again. Grad Nite is back at Disneyland Resort.

Every spring, thousands of high school seniors head to Disneyland to celebrate graduation with a special after-hours event. And if your trip overlaps with it, you might be wondering if it’s going to affect your vacation.

Take a deep breath. You’re going to be just fine.

I’ve been during Grad Nite, and I’m going to walk you through exactly what to expect, how it affects crowds, and how to plan your day so you still have an amazing trip.

Discount Disney Park Tickets And Hotels

Before we jump in, quick tip.

Do not pay full price for your Disneyland trip.

What Is Grad Nite at Disneyland

Grad Nite is a special ticketed event just for graduating high school seniors.

It takes place at Disney California Adventure on select nights in May and June. Students attend with their schools and chaperones, and they need a separate event ticket to get in.

Some students only attend the evening event, while others have tickets that let them visit both parks during the day before the party starts.

Here’s what happens.

California Adventure typically closes early to regular guests, usually around 9 pm. After that, the park is reserved just for Grad Nite attendees.

During the event, there are DJs, dance parties, photo opportunities, exclusive merchandise, and rides open late into the night.

Grad Nite Dates 2026

Disney has officially released the Grad Nite dates for 2026.

Here are the event nights:

May 8, 12, 13, 15, 17, 20, 21, 28, 29, and 31, 2026

June 3, 5, 7, 10, and 12, 2026

If your trip overlaps with any of these dates, you can expect higher crowd levels, especially in the afternoon and evening.

That said, mornings are still a great time to be in the parks, and with a good plan, you can absolutely work around it.

How Grad Nite Affects Crowds

Yes, the parks are more crowded on Grad Nite days, but it is very manageable if you plan ahead.

Here’s what the day typically looks like.

Mornings are great. Crowds are usually lower because most teens are not arriving at rope drop.

In the afternoon, things start to pick up as school groups enter the parks.

By evening, it feels noticeably busier, especially in California Adventure.

Once California Adventure closes for the private event, Disneyland Park continues operating like normal, but will feel busier.

Are the Teens a Problem

Let’s talk about this because I know it’s what everyone is thinking.

I had the exact same concern the first time I went during Grad Nite. I pictured big groups of rowdy teenagers taking over the park.

In my mind, I was sure the parks would be overrun by packs of wild, disrespectful teenagers who were hell-bent on turning my beloved Disneyland into some drunken, drug-filled rave. I have an active imagination:) I like to plan for the worst and hope for the best. 

That was not my experience at all.

The students I saw were excited, of course, but also respectful and well behaved. Disney has strict rules in place, and there is plenty of supervision.

Yes, it is louder and more energetic, but it is not chaotic.

Tips for Visiting During Grad Nite

1. Arrive early! Teens like to sleep in. Get to the parks in time for rope drop, and you’ll have short lines for the first part of your day. You can read all about rope drop here. This way, you get all your fun in before they arrive. It will get quite crowded in the late afternoon.

2. Use Lightning Lane Multi Pass! I know it costs extra, but use it if you can. I’ve got info on Lightning Lane Multi Pass here. This will be your best friend on a Grad Nite. It would be best to maximize your time; Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a great way to do that.

3. Download the Disneyland app before your trip. Then, you can use your mobile device to check wait times, see the entertainment schedule, and mobile order food.

4. If you have a park hopper, hit California Adventure first. Grads with park hoppers will most likely hit Disneyland first because they will have the run of California Adventure later that night. When it starts feeling too crowded, skip on over to Disneyland! You could also call it a night since you arrived early and beat the crowds.

5. Book a hotel with a great pool with my partners at Get Away Today. Ditching the crowds for the pool is always a good idea! Plus, they have discounted park tickets!

6. If you don’t have a park hopper consider spending the entire day at Disneyland if you want to stay past 9 pm.

7. Have a good attitude. That will take you a long way. Be patient and flexible with the kids all around you.

8. If you notice a teen who isn’t behaving suitably, notify a cast member. There are behavior guidelines that guests attending the private Grad Nite party are expected to uphold. Notify a cast member if you see an issue. They can help you.

9. Stay flexible. This matters more than anything. Have a plan, but be willing to adjust. Focus on what you are able to do instead of what you are missing.

10. Know when to call it a day If you rope dropped and had a super productive morning, you might be completely happy heading out earlier. That is still a great park day.

Final Thoughts

Grad Nite is not something you need to avoid.

Yes, it brings more people into the parks, but with a good plan, you can absolutely still have an amazing Disneyland day.

I have been during Grad Nite and would go again without hesitation.

There are so many different airports to choose from near Disneyland. Knowing which option is best for you and your family can be tricky. Don’t stress. I’m here to help! I fly to Disneyland monthly and have a lot of experience with airports around the Disneyland theme parks area. In this post, we’ll talk about all the airport options including the closest airport, the cheapest airport, and which airport I think is the best option for your Disney vacation. I’ve also included some pros and cons of each option.

There are 5 main airports to choose from around Disneyland. That’s a lot! They are not all equal, but I guess having choices is a good thing. Even if it does make it a little harder to narrow down the best airport near Disneyland. Keep in mind that really any airport you choose will probably be great. You’re going to Disneyland and the airport is just a small part of your vacation. So, don’t stress. Just take this information and choose the airport that makes the most sense for your group and budget. It’s going to be great!

Best Airport Near Disneyland

Here are the most popular airports near Disneyland. There are some other airports in the surrounding areas, but I didn’t feel like they had enough going for them to make this list! I’ve only included the airports that I think would be a decent choice for your vacation. Read through the pros and cons of each one and hopefully, it will help you find the best airport near Disneyland for you!

Los Angeles International Airport(LAX)

The LAX airport is a top choice for lots of people for their Disneyland vacation. You can usually find good deals when flying into this airport because it’s the biggest airport in the area. They also offer a lot of direct flights, which is really nice. However, LAX is quite far from the Disneyland Resort. When you factor in LA traffic, you can usually plan on about 60-120 minutes to get to the Disneyland area. They do have lots of transportation options to get you to Disneyland like shuttle services, rideshare, taxis, public transportation, or rental cars. Keep in mind, it can be quite expensive to pay for a shuttle or rideshare from LAX to the Disneyland area. Any money you save on the airline ticket might be lost on transportation.

Time from the airport to Disneyland: Anywhere from 60-120 minutes depending on traffic.

• Transportation costs can be high

Hollywood Burbank Airport(BUR)

The Hollywood Burbank Airport(formerly the Bob Hope Airport) is sometimes considered when visiting Disneyland in southern California. This airport is quite far away from Disneyland and it will take you awhile to get there. You can sometimes find good deals at this airport. If you happen to be visiting Universal Studios during your visit, then this airport might be a good choice because it’s so close to Universal Studios Hollywood. They do have lots of transportation options to get you to Disneyland like rideshare, taxis, or rental cars. Keep in mind, it can be quite expensive to pay for a shuttle or rideshare from BUR to the Disneyland area. Any money you save on the airline ticket might be lost on transportation. If you’re just doing Disneyland, this option is not high on my list because of the travel time involved in getting to Disneyland and the high cost of transportation.

Distance to Disneyland: 41 miles

Time from airport to Disneyland: Anywhere from 60-120 minutes depending on traffic.

Cons:

• Far away
• Transportation costs can be high

Ontario International Airport(ONT)

Some people find great deals at the Ontario International Airport, but this airport is very far away from Disneyland and I wouldn’t fly in here. This is another of the major airports on my list. Larger airports often have great deals, but they are all just too far away from Disneyland to be convenient. They do have lots of transportation options to get you to Disneyland like shuttle services, rideshare, taxis, public transportation, or rental cars. Keep in mind, it can be quite expensive to pay for a shuttle or rideshare from ONT to the Disneyland area. Any money you save on the airline ticket might be lost on transportation.

Distance to Disneyland: 35 miles

Time from the airport to Disneyland: 90-180 minutes depending on the traffic

Pros:

• Can sometimes find good deals

Cons:

• Far away
• Crowded airport
• Transportation costs can be high

John Wayne Airport-Orange County(SNA)

I love the John Wayne airport! For me, this is the best airport near Disneyland. It’s also known as the Santa Ana airport. This smaller airport is the closest airport to Disneyland and is my personal preference when traveling to Disneyland California. They host many major airlines and if you’re looking for the quickest drive to Disneyland, this is your best bet. Prices can be a little higher here, but the lower cost of ground transportation usually evens it out for me. They do have lots of transportation options to get you to Disneyland like shuttle services, rideshare, taxis, public transportation, or rental cars.

Distance to Disneyland: 14 miles

Time from the airport to Disneyland: 15- 25 minutes depending on the traffic

Pros:

• Close to Disneyland
• Small airport
• Cheaper transportation

Cons:

• Ticket prices can be a bit higher than the farther away airports

Long Beach Airport(LGB)

Long Beach is another airport that I love! It’s a close second on my “best airport near Disneyland” list. It’s close to Disneyland, a smaller airport and is a great option for flying into Disneyland. Prices here are often a little lower than they are at SNA. Even though they’re a smaller airport, they have a lot of great flight options. They do have lots of transportation options to get you to Disneyland like shuttle services, rideshare, taxis, public transportation, or rental cars.

Distance to Disneyland: 18 miles

Time from the airport to Disneyland: 20-30 minutes depending on the traffic

Pros:

• Close to Disneyland
• Small airport
• Cheaper transportation

Cons:

• Ticket prices can be a bit higher than the farther away airports

Best Airport Near Disneyland(my personal opinion)

If you really want to know what the best airport near Disneyland is, it’s a toss up for me. My favorite airport to fly into is between John Wayne and Long Beach. Honestly, I’m completely happy with either one. They are both extremely close to Disneyland and are both smaller airports. I love smaller airports! Because they are less crowded they usually have shorter lines for everything, which is a bonus in my book! I hate crowds, especially at security and the baggage claim area!

Whenever I travel to Disneyland, I always price-check both of these airports. Then, I usually go with whichever one has the cheaper rates for my vacation days. You really can’t go wrong with either of these two options. So for me, the best airport near Disneyland is whichever one is the cheapest between the two!

If you can’t swing John Wayne or Long Beach, Los Angeles International Airport is a viable option. Just plan extra time into your travel plans to account for the distance and maybe add a little extra to the transportation portion of your budget.

Transportation To Disneyland

After you’ve figured out which is the best airport near Disneyland for your family, the next step is to figure out your transportation. Each airport will have shuttles, ride-share options(like Uber or Lyft), taxis, or rental car counters. If you have a small group and don’t want to rent a car, a ride-share option might be best for you. If you have a larger group or family you might want to consider renting a car or a shuttle service. I love the Karmel shuttle service.

Disneyland Resort Hotels

There are three Disneyland Resort hotels to choose from. The Disneyland Hotel, Pixar Place and the Grand Californian. Each of these properties has a different vibe, location, atmosphere, and price point. I’ll cover each of them so you can decide which(if any) is best for your family when you visit Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure Park.

Disney’s Pixar Place Hotel

This fun property has been reimagined into Pixar Place Hotel, and it’s now fully themed around your favorite Pixar films! The entire hotel feels bright, playful, and modern, with incredible details and artwork featuring characters from movies like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and more.

The rooms have been updated with a clean, contemporary design and subtle Pixar touches throughout. One of the highlights is still the rooftop pool area, which now features Pixar theming and fun interactive elements. Kids will especially love the Finding Nemo–inspired splash area and the Crush’s Surfin’ Slide.

Disney now considers Pixar Place Hotel a moderate-tier property (no longer a value resort), but it is still typically the most affordable of the three Disneyland Resort hotels.

Location

Pixar Place Hotel is located a little farther out than the other two on-property hotels, but it’s still within walking distance. It will usually take about 10–15 minutes to walk through Downtown Disney to reach the main entrance of Disneyland Park.

One major perk is the dedicated entrance to Disney California Adventure. Guests of Pixar Place Hotel can use a private walkway that leads directly to a hotel guest entrance near Pixar Pier. This makes it incredibly convenient—just about a 5-minute walk to enter California Adventure.

Dining

Pixar Place Hotel now offers onsite dining options, which is a big upgrade from its previous version.

• Great Maple Modern American Eatery – a full-service restaurant offering brunch favorites, comfort food, and a fun, upscale atmosphere
• Sketch Pad Café – a quick-service spot with coffee, pastries, and light bites
• Small convenience market – for grab-and-go snacks and drinks

You’re also still just steps away from all the dining options in Downtown Disney, Disneyland Hotel, and the Grand Californian.

Disneyland Hotel

The Disneyland hotel has a sophisticated but whimsical design that pays tribute to the classic origins of the Disneyland park. You’ll stay in one of three towers Adventure Tower, Frontier Tower, or Fantasy Tower. There are two pools to choose from and 2 monorail waterslides—themed after the classic park attraction. Your kids will love the fun water play area. Disney considers this hotel a “moderate” property. Out of the three, this is my favorite Disneyland Resort Hotel to stay at.

Location

Disneyland hotel is located right near the entrance to Downtown Disney. It will probably take you about 10 minutes to walk from the property, through Downtown Disney to reach the Main Gates of Disneyland. There is also the option to ride the monorail from Downtown Disney District into the parks. The monorail drops guests off in Tomorrowland.

Dining

The Disneyland hotel has a variety of dining options located nearby. Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill(great place to grab a dole whip!), Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, The Coffee House, and Goofy’s Kitchen. They also have room service and are close to Downtown Disney, which has many dining options.

The Coffee House is an easy place to grab a quick breakfast. Goofy’s Kitchen is a great way to meet your favorite Disney Characters! This is a very popular character dining experience. Dining reservations are recommended.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel is decorated in a California craftsman style that is absolutely beautiful. It has a spa, 3 pools, and many dining options, including room service. They also have a private entrance into Disney’s California Adventure Park. Disney considers this hotel to be a “Luxury” property. It is the most expensive option out of the three Disneyland Resort hotels.

Location

Disney’s Grand Californian is located right in the heart of Downtown Disney and is the closest Disney property to the parks. It will take you about 5 minutes to walk through Downtown Disney to enter Disneyland. Or, you can have easy access to Disney’s California Adventure Park right from the hotel.

Dining

Disney’s Grand Californian offers lots of different dining options. Napa Rose is a great place for a romantic dinner(reservations recommended), and Storytellers Cafe is the perfect place for breakfast or brunch with Mickey Mouse! Reservations are recommended for all character dining. Hearthstone Lounge is nice for a cocktail, snack or continental breakfast. GCH Craftsman Grill is my favorite choice for a quick-service breakfast, lunch, or dinner. GCH Craftsman bar is a nice place to relax with drinks and appetizers poolside. You can also order food via room service or enjoy any of the dining locations at Downtown Disney.

Perks To Staying On Property

There are still some great perks to staying on property at Disneyland! While early entry is no longer offered, there are other benefits that can make your trip smoother and more magical.

One of the biggest advantages is location. All three Disneyland Resort hotels are within walking distance of the parks, which makes it easy to head back to your room for a midday break or stay late without worrying about transportation.

Guests staying on property also get convenient access points into the parks. For example, the Grand Californian has its own private entrance into Disney California Adventure, and Pixar Place Hotel offers a dedicated entrance nearby as well. These can save you time and make your park days feel a little easier.

Each of the Disneyland Resort hotels also has a great pool area, a large gift shop, and convenient dining options right onsite.

And honestly, one of the biggest perks is the atmosphere. You get that extra dose of Disney magic when you’re staying on property. Many guests love being fully immersed in the “Disney bubble,” meaning you’re surrounded by Disney theming, music, and storytelling from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed.

Good Neighbor Hotels

There are a bunch of really great properties all around Disneyland that aren’t on the property. Many of these hotels are actually closer than the Disneyland Resort hotels and you can book them for a fraction of the price. While I enjoy staying on property, I don’t do it often because of the extra cost involved.

I often choose to stay at a property directly across the street on Harbor Blvd. These hotels are much cheaper and just a short walk away. Most of them are only about a 5-10 minute walk from the parks. I have a whole post with information about my favorite hotels on Harbor Blvd that you should check out.

Rope Drop At Disneyland

Rope dropping at Disneyland isn’t complicated, but if you understand how it works, you’ll be able to use it like a pro!

What is Rope Drop?

Rope drop at Disneyland refers to being inside one of the Disney parks right when they open up. Disneyland starts letting guests into their parks about 30 minutes before the official park opening time. You are allowed to enter Main Street(or Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure) and walk all the way to the end before you are stopped by cast members holding a rope that stretches the length of the street.

Right at opening time, you’ll hear an announcement welcoming you to the park for the day. The cast members will remove the rope and you’ll be free to head to your favorite Disney parks attraction. So, essentially, “rope drop” means that you’re one of the very first people to enter the parks for the day. There is no extra cost to rope drop. Anyone can do it.

Why Should I Rope Drop?

Rope dropping at Disneyland is a really great strategy to help you avoid long wait times. The shortest wait times at Disneyland are during the first 2 hours after the park opens. By rope dropping, you can take full advantage of the short wait times and get on the most popular attractions that will have long wait times later in the day. Rope dropping at Disneyland is one of my top tips to ensure you have the best time at Disneyland! You can find my other top tips here.

Because you arrive early, you’re already in the park and getting on your favorite attractions like Space Mountain as soon as the park opens! You’re living your best Disney life while the rest of the park goers are just getting to security and fighting high crowds to even enter the front gates.

How To Rope Drop

Rope dropping at the Disneyland resort involves getting up early! I hate to be the one to tell you that, but it’s true. If you’re not able to get up and to the parks early, rope dropping might not be the best strategy for you. In order to rope drop efficiently, you’ll need to arrive at the security gates 45- 60 minutes before the park opens. You’ll go through bag check and security, then you’ll line up at the front gate. About 30 minutes before the park officially opens, cast members will start allowing people through the front gates.

Once you’re inside the park, you will head straight to your first attraction until you’re stopped by a cast member and the actual rope. Here, you’ll wait until the park is officially open. It’s going to seem crowded in this moment. You might find yourself thinking, “Oh my goodness. Today is going to be crazy crowded. I can’t believe all these people are here!” Just take a few calming breaths. Everything is fine. It only appears super crowded. Once the rope drops and guests start to disperse to the different lands and Disney park attractions, crowds will thin and you won’t believe how empty the parks feels. Trust me on this one.

Once the park is officially open and you’re released by the cast members you can head to your first chosen attraction. You’ll be able to walk on most attractions for the first hour or so. Make sure you choose which attractions you rope drop wisely! It can make a huge difference to your over all day. Keep reading to find out which attractions are best to rope drop and which attractions you should steer clear or during rope drop.

Which Attractions To NOT Rope Drop At Disneyland

There’s several attractions that I don’t recommend when rope dropping at Disneyland. Number one on my list is Rise of the Resistance. For some reason, the majority of Disney park guests seem to think that the new Star Wars attraction, Rise of the Resistance in Galaxy’s Edge is going to be less crowded in the morning. While most attractions are less crowded in the morning, this is one of the few exceptions. Hundreds of guests rush there each morning making the first few hours of the park the most busy of the entire day for this particular ride.

This is the same for Peter Pan. Bunches of guests rush to Fantasyland to try to be the first ones on Peter Pan’s Flight, thinking they will experience shorter wait times. When in fact, they are actually waiting longer than they would if they had waited until later in the day.

The very worst part about rope dropping Rise of the Resistance or Peter Pan is that these misguided folks are now stuck in long lines and wasting prime morning hours that are famous for low crowds! It’s sad, really. Lucky for us, you now know better and won’t waste your precious morning hours on these attractions. Keep reading to find out when the best times to ride Peter Pan and Rise of the Resistance.

Which Attractions To Rope Drop At Disneyland

The list of which attractions to ride at Disneyland is long! There’s so many great options. As long as you avoid the ones I mentioned above, you really can’t go wrong. I like to check off some of the big ticket attractions during the first 2 hours. I usually rope drop Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, then head to Jungle Cruise, Indiana Jones, Pirates and Haunted Mansion. I’m able to check of 5 big rides in the first 90 minutes or so of the parks being open!

Or, some days I’ll start with Space Mountain and then head to Star Tours, Buzz Light Year, Matterhorn and Alice in Wonderland. Again, 5 big rides checked off my list in the first 90 minutes! That’s a big deal.

If you’re not really interested in riding the headliner attractions first thing, or want to save them to use with Lightning Lane Multi Pass later in the day, Fantasyland is a great place to start. This land is the perfect place for small children to start their day and has some of my favorite attractions! Did you know, if you’re the very first group on Storybook Land Canal Boats you get to sign the Captain’s Book? It’s pretty adorable! This is another great first ride.

Which Attractions To NOT Rope Drop At California Adventure

Just like my list of attractions to not rope drop at Disneyland, California Adventure has an attraction that you should steer clear of during the morning hours. That attraction is Radiator Springs Racers, in Carsland. This popular attraction is swarmed in the morning with frantic guests trying to ride it first thing. It’s actually quite stressful. If it’s an early entry day at California Adventure(more on that in a minute), guests with early entry will already be in line by the time you get into the park, so you’ll have a long wait first thing in the morning. Save it for later in the day. The wait time for this attraction usually drops quite a bit in the evening.

Which Attractions To Rope Drop At California Adventure

There’s so many great rides to rope drop at Disney’s California Adventure! I usually like to head to Guardians of the Galaxy or Pixar Pier first. If you head to Pixar Pier you can do Goofy’s Sky school, Incredicoaster and Toy Story, plus a few extras in the first 2 hours. It’s a great place to start! Save Little Mermaid for later in the day. That attraction always has a short wait time.

But, I Heard It’s Best To Rope Drop The Biggest Rides!

I’m sure you’ve heard this. Lots of Disney bloggers recommend it. I’ve done test after test on rope drop strategies and I don’t want you to even attempt them. Please trust me. I will say, occasionally, I’ve had success rope dropping Rise of the Resistance, Peter Pan or Radiator Springs Racers. But, it’s not often.

If you have a stroller with you or small kids, don’t bother. If anyone in your group is not willing to speed walk in a group of pushing guests, don’t bother. If you have anxiety in large crowds, don’t bother.

However, If you have a group of teenagers or adults and who are able bodied and up for a challenge, you just might be able to pull it off. But, only if you are close enough to actually see the rope and speak to cast members holding the rope before the park opens. If you are not that close, you’re too far way to successfully rope drop any of the attractions listed above. If you go this route, Godspeed.

Rope Dropping With Lightning Lane Multi Pass

Disney Lightning Lane Multi Pass is the new system at Disneyland that replaced the old MaxPass/FastPass system. You can find more info on it here. You can definitely combine Lightning Lane Multi Pass with your rope drop strategy. Combining the two is a great idea!

Because of low wait times in the morning, I don’t recommend using Lightning Lane Multi Pass until after lunch if you are not park hopping. Take advantage of the low wait times and save your Lightning Lane Multi Pass Lightning Lanes for later in the day when crowds are higher and wait times are longer. I recommend pulling your first Lightning Lane Multi Pass Lightning Lane about 90 minutes after the park opens,

If you are park hopping, you’ll be able to hop to your second park at 11:00am. Since you’ll have a limited amount of time at your first park you’ll want to use Lightning Lane Multi Pass earlier in the day. Start using you’re Lightning lanes on the bigger attractions like Indiana Jones and Space Mountain right away so you’ll be ready to hope later in the day.

Who Shouldn’t Rope Drop At Disneyland

Now, there’s some of you out there that really probably shouldn’t rope drop. I hate to say it, but it’s true. If you have very small children who need to sleep in and have a leisurely breakfast, rope dropping might not be for you. If you(or someone in your group) absolutely hate mornings and are going to complain and grumble all day about getting up early, rope dropping might not be for you. If your idea of a vacation doesn’t include getting up early and you’d much rather sleep in and deal with larger crowds, rope dropping might not be for you.

Rope dropping isn’t for everyone. You can still have a wonderful vacation at the Disney parks without rope dropping. I do recommend arriving as early as you’re able so you can take advantage of the low wait times for the most popular rides in the morning. Avoiding long waits is always a good idea!

When To Ride Rise Of The Resistance And Radiator Spring Racers

I don’t recommend rope dropping Rise of the Resistance. Everyone rushes there and chances are your wait times will be just as long as they will later in the day. For Rise of the Resistance, I recommend riding it later in the day.

Rise Of The Resistance closed about 2 hours BEFORE the rest of the park closes. Check the app on the day of your visit to see what time it will be closing that day. Jump in line for it about 10 minutes before the attraction closes for the day and you’ll usually only wait about 20 minutes or less.

I don’t recommend rope-dropping Radiator Springs Racers. Everyone rushes there and chances are your wait times will be just as long as they will later in the day. For Radiator Springs Racers, I recommend riding it later in the day. About 1 hour before the park closes the lines are usually fairly short(under 60 minutes) and the sun has gone down so it’s not hot. You can also take advantage of their single rider line or pay for an individual lightning lane. More info here.

Here’s everything you need to know about visiting Disneyland in April!

Disneyland In April Crowds

Disneyland in April can get crowded due to Spring Breaks. Spring Break season is an ideal time to visit for many families(maybe yours!), so their children don’t miss school. The good news is Disneyland will have longer hours and scheduled entertainment more often, so you should have plenty of time in the park.

Expect the highest crowds from late March through mid April due to spring break. If you can visit later in the month, you may see slightly lower crowd levels.

Don’t let higher crowds scare you away! You can still have a great time, even when it’s crowded. I do recommend arriving at security at least 60 minutes early. You’ll want to take advantage of the lower wait times in the morning! The afternoons bring long lines. I have many other tips to help you enjoy Disneyland when it’s crowded here. 

The best days to visit for low crowd levels are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday. My Disneyland crowd calendar will be helpful for you, but keep in mind: this is my best guess at crowd levels. I don’t have a magic crystal ball, so I use this calendar for planning purposes only. 

Best Time to Visit Disneyland in April

If you have flexibility, the best time to visit Disneyland in April is later in the month after most spring break crowds have ended.

Early April tends to be the busiest, especially around Easter.

Late April can still be busy, but crowds are usually a little more manageable.

Disneyland in April Strategy You Should Not Skip!

If you are visiting in April, you need a plan for Lightning Lane.

Crowds are high this time of year and standby wait times can easily reach 60 to 120 minutes for the most popular rides by midday.

But you do not have to wait in those lines.

Disneyland in April Weather

Disneyland in April usually has mild weather. The days are starting to warm up, nights aren’t as chilly, and the rainy season has mostly come and gone.

The average high is 74 degrees F, with an average low of 54 degrees F. You may still want to pack a jacket for those chilly evenings. Keep an eye on the weather leading up to your trip so you can be prepared for a rainy day! By the end of the month, it can be pretty warm!

Disneyland In April Events

April is one of the most exciting months to visit Disneyland because there is so much happening.

Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival

This festival runs through April 27th 2026. You will find food booths, special entertainment, and lots of limited time menu items throughout the park. Check out my guide to the Food and Wine Festival with a free printable foodie guide!

Season of The Force

In past years, Disneyland has hosted a full “Season of the Force” Star Wars celebration in the spring.

For 2026, Disney has not officially announced a full Season of the Force event.

However, Star Wars experiences will still be happening in late April and May, including new updates in Galaxy’s Edge and special ticketed events like Star Wars Nite.

If you are visiting earlier in April, you will likely not see these offerings. If your trip is at the end of the month or into May, you may experience more Star Wars themed entertainment and offerings.

Dapper Day

Dapper Day will take place on April 19, 2026, with additional events and the Dapper Day Expo happening April 18 and 19.

This unofficial event is when guests dress up in stylish outfits, often inspired by vintage fashion. You will see everything from classic 1950s looks to modern, polished outfits.

Even if you are not planning to dress up, it is a really fun day to be in the parks because so many people go all out.

Easter At Disneyland

Easter at Disneyland April 5 2026

Disneyland usually celebrates Easter with a fun egg scavenger hunt across both parks. You can purchase a map, find the hidden eggs, and redeem it for a prize.

Tip. These events do bring in more people, but they also make April one of the most fun times to visit.

Here’s an updated list with events and ride closures at Disneyland in April for you to be aware of.

Disney Channel Nite

Disney Channel Nite is a special after hours event at Disneyland that takes place on April 12, 14, and 16, 2026.

This is a separately ticketed event, which means the park will close early to regular guests on these nights.

If you do not have a ticket for the event, you will need to leave the park before it begins. If you do have a ticket, you can enter as early as 6:00 PM and stay for exclusive entertainment, shorter ride lines, themed food, and character experiences.

Tip. These nights can actually be great days to visit because crowds are often lighter earlier in the day, but just be aware that the park will close earlier than usual.

Star Wars Nite

Star Wars Nite is a special after hours event at Disneyland that takes place on select nights in April and May.

In 2026, Star Wars Nite will be held on April 28, April 30, May 4, and May 6.

This is a separately ticketed event, which means Disneyland will close early to regular guests on these nights.

If you do not have a ticket, you will need to leave the park before the event begins. If you do have a ticket, you can enter earlier in the evening and enjoy shorter wait times, special entertainment, themed food, and unique character experiences.

Tip. Like other after hours events, these days can actually be great to visit because crowds are often lighter earlier in the day, but you will want to plan for an earlier park closing.

Most of the rides and attractions should be up and running. Expect higher crowds because of Spring break. You can expect both parks to be open longer due to higher crowds. Take advantage of the longer park hours by staying later if you can! Arriving in time for rope drop will make all the difference during higher crowd days! Don’t let higher crowds scare you away. April is a great time to visit, and you can still have a great time, even in a crowded park.

This option can save you tons of time waiting in long lines. Plus, when you use rider switch at Disneyland everyone in your group will have a chance to ride the thrill rides because it enables you to take turns waiting with the kids who are too small to ride.

One adult waits with the little ones, while the first group rides the attraction. Rider Switch At Disneyland

If you have young children who are too small for an attraction or don’t wish to ride then rider switch is going to be your best friend! The Rider Switch program(also known as Rider Swap) is designed for groups who have small children(or bigger kids who don’t want to ride) so that everyone who wishes to can experience the attraction.

With Rider Switch, one adult or supervising Guest (14 years or older) will wait with non-riders while the rest of the party enjoys the attraction. Then, they simply switch places to allow the supervising guest to experience the attraction without waiting in the regular queue again. It’s a genius system!

To Use Rider Switch:

1. Check with a Disney Cast Member to see if Rider Switch is offered at the attraction you’d like to experience.

2. Upon arriving at the selected attraction, approach the greeting Cast Member with your entire party. Members will be divided into 2 parties—“Party 1” includes those riding the attraction first, while “Party 2” consists of non-riders and their waiting adult.

3. The supervising Guests of Party 2—which can include a maximum of 2 people— will have their admission media/tickets scanned and must wait in the designated area—usually outside the attraction—while Party 1 waits in line to experience the attraction.

4. After Party 1(first group) experiences the attraction, they’ll assume supervision of the non-riding Guests.

5. The supervising Guests of Party 2 should then return to the appropriate attraction entrance (e.g., attraction exit or lightning lane entrance) to have their admission media/tickets re-scanned by a Cast Member for the Rider Switch entitlement. At this point, Party 2 may enter the appropriate attraction return line and board without waiting in the regular standby line.

Measure Your Kids

Do you know how tall your kids are? It’s a good idea to measure your kids before you arrive at the theme parks. Many of the rides and attractions have a minimum height requirement and it’s nice to know ahead of time what your child can and can’t ride. Grab your tape measure and measure your child’s height. Measure them with their shoes on. Preferably the shoes they’ll be wearing to the parks. Now that you have their heights, here’s a handy list of Disneyland height requirements so you can see which rides they’ll be able to enjoy.

I love that the Disneyland Resort offers the rider switch system. It’s such a great help to families! We used it all the time when my children were little. It was a huge help for our family! My husband would wait with my little girls who were too small to ride. I would take my two boys on one of the bigger rides. Then, we would switch places and I would wait with the little girls while my husband took our boys on the ride again, this time with a shorter wait time! The best part was my two boys got to ride the attraction two times in a row! Once with each parent. I loved that my husband and I both got to experience the attraction with our kids. We used rider switch at Disneyland to our full advantage!
