Universal Orlando Resort has changed so much that an old ride list is almost useless now. There are three full theme parks—Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Epic Universe—plus the Volcano Bay water park. That is a lot to sort through, especially when you are trying to decide how many days you need and which rides your family will actually enjoy.

I have been to Universal Orlando with my family, and the ride lineup is one of the things that impressed me most. It is not just giant roller coasters. There are immersive Harry Potter attractions, family rides, interactive games, water rides and some of the best themed experiences I have ever seen. But there are also more height requirements, motion simulators and intense attractions than you will find at Disneyland, so a little preparation helps.

This 2026 guide covers the current rides at all four Universal Orlando parks, what has closed, the attractions I would prioritize and the important things you need to know before buying tickets.

Quick Guide to the Universal Orlando Parks

  • Universal Studios Florida: Diagon Alley, Minions, DreamWorks Land, The Mummy, E.T. and movie-based attractions
  • Universal Islands of Adventure: Hogsmeade, Hagrid’s, VelociCoaster, Marvel Super Hero Island, Seuss Landing and water rides
  • Universal Epic Universe: SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon and Celestial Park
  • Universal Volcano Bay: A full water theme park with slides, rivers, pools and the Krakatau Aqua Coaster

Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure are next to each other and connected by CityWalk. Epic Universe is a separate destination a few miles away. Volcano Bay is also separate. Do not assume you can casually walk from one of these locations to another.

Discount Universal Orlando Tickets

Before you buy tickets, decide which parks you want to visit. A standard one-park ticket does not let you ride the Hogwarts Express between Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. You need a Park-to-Park ticket for that experience.

Epic Universe is now included in select multi-day ticket options, but the exact products and promotions change. Compare the full ticket details before booking instead of choosing based only on the number of days.

I recommend checking prices with my travel partners at Get Away Today. They can help with Universal Orlando tickets, hotels and vacation packages. You can also call 1-855-GET-AWAY and tell them Melissa from Mix In Some Magic sent you.

Universal Studios Florida Rides

Universal Studios Florida is the original park. This is where you will find Diagon Alley, DreamWorks Land, Minion Land and several attractions based on movies and television. It has fewer giant coasters than Islands of Adventure, but several rides use screens and motion effects.

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

Escape from Gringotts combines a dark ride, 3-D screens and coaster elements inside Gringotts Bank. The queue is part of the experience, so look around instead of rushing through it. The ride has a 42-inch minimum height requirement, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion.

Hogwarts Express: King’s Cross Station

The Hogwarts Express takes you from Diagon Alley to Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure. You must have a Park-to-Park ticket. The experience is different in each direction, so Harry Potter fans may want to ride both ways.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando

Revenge of the Mummy

Revenge of the Mummy is an indoor coaster with launches, darkness, fire effects and a few surprises. It is one of my top rides at Universal Studios Florida. The minimum height is 48 inches, and you will need to store loose belongings in a locker.

MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack

This interactive ride lets you shoot aliens and compete for a high score. It spins at a few points, but it is mostly silly fun. The minimum height is 42 inches, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion.

E.T. Adventure

E.T. Adventure is a classic dark ride and one of the gentlest rides in the park. You board a bicycle and help E.T. return home. The minimum height is 34 inches, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion. I love that Universal has kept this one. It feels nostalgic in the best way.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

Minion Mayhem is a motion-simulator attraction with a 40-inch minimum height. Children under 48 inches need a supervising companion. If motion simulators bother you, this may be one to approach carefully.

Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast

Villain-Con Minion Blast is an interactive attraction where you stand on a moving walkway and use a blaster to earn points. There is no traditional ride vehicle and no minimum height requirement. It is a good option for mixed-age groups, although aiming while the walkway moves takes a little practice.

TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D

TRANSFORMERS combines a moving ride vehicle with large 3-D screens. It is fast, loud and more intense than it looks from the outside. The minimum height is 40 inches, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion.

Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon

This is another motion-simulator attraction. You race through New York with Jimmy Fallon in a large theater-style ride vehicle. The minimum height is 40 inches. It is not my highest priority, especially if your time is limited or screens make you sick.

The Simpsons Ride

The Simpsons Ride is a motion simulator with a 40-inch minimum height. It is funny and chaotic, but it can be rough for guests who are sensitive to motion. This is one of the rides most likely to make people feel queasy.

Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl

This is a Dumbo-style spinner in Springfield. There is no minimum height, although children under 48 inches need a supervising companion. It is simple, but younger kids may love it.

DreamWorks Land Attractions

DreamWorks Land replaced the old Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone. The main ride is Trolls Trollercoaster, a short family coaster with a 36-inch minimum height. The land also includes interactive play areas and character experiences based on Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Trolls and Gabby’s Dollhouse. This is the best part of Universal Studios Florida for younger children who are not ready for the bigger rides.

Fast & Furious – Supercharged Is Closing

Important 2026 update: Fast & Furious – Supercharged has its final day of operation on August 16, 2026, and will be permanently closed beginning August 17. If you are visiting after that date, it should not be part of your plan.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has also permanently closed and is no longer part of the Universal Studios Florida ride lineup.

Universal Studios Florida rides

Universal Islands of Adventure Rides

Islands of Adventure has the strongest thrill-ride lineup of the original two parks. It is home to Hagrid’s, VelociCoaster, The Incredible Hulk Coaster and several major water rides. It also has Seuss Landing for younger children.

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

Hagrid’s is part coaster and part story-driven adventure. It has multiple launches, backward movement, a drop and incredible theming. The minimum height is 48 inches. This is one of the best rides at Universal Orlando, and it usually has one of the longest waits. I would prioritize it early or watch the wait time closely throughout the day.

Jurassic World VelociCoaster

VelociCoaster is fast, smooth and very intense. It has launches, inversions and a famous roll over the lagoon. The minimum height is 51 inches. Loose articles are not allowed, and riders pass through a metal detector before boarding. This is a fantastic coaster, but it is not a gentle step up for a nervous rider.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

Forbidden Journey takes you through Hogwarts using a robotic ride system, physical sets and screens. The minimum height is 48 inches. The queue through Hogwarts Castle is amazing, but the ride movement can be a lot if you are prone to motion sickness.

Flight of the Hippogriff

This is a short outdoor family coaster in Hogsmeade. The minimum height is 36 inches, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion. It is a good first coaster, but the wait can feel long for such a quick ride.

Hogwarts Express: Hogsmeade Station

The train travels from Hogsmeade to King’s Cross at Universal Studios Florida. A Park-to-Park ticket is required. Remember that the story is different depending on which direction you travel.

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

Spider-Man combines 3-D screens, physical sets and a moving vehicle. It opened years ago but still holds up incredibly well. The minimum height is 40 inches, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion.

The Incredible Hulk Coaster

The Hulk launches riders straight into an inversion and does not slow down much after that. The minimum height is 54 inches. Loose items are prohibited, and riders go through a metal detector. This coaster is more forceful than VelociCoaster, in my opinion.

Doctor Doom’s Fearfall

Doctor Doom launches riders up two tall towers. The minimum height is 52 inches. The actual ride is short, but the launch is intense.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong

Reign of Kong uses a large expedition vehicle, screens and enormous creatures. The minimum height is 34 inches, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion. The queue can be scarier than some families expect.

Jurassic Park River Adventure

Major 2026 closure: Jurassic Park River Adventure is scheduled to remain closed through November 19, 2026. The current refurbishment began January 5. Check Universal’s official temporary-closure calendar before your trip in case the date changes.

Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls

Ripsaw Falls is a log flume with a 44-inch minimum height. Children under 48 inches need a supervising companion. You are likely to get very wet, not Disneyland-log-ride damp. Plan accordingly.

Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges

This raft ride has a 42-inch minimum height. Children under 48 inches need a supervising companion. You will probably get soaked. I am not being dramatic. Protect anything that cannot get wet.

Pteranodon Flyers

Pteranodon Flyers is designed for children. Guests over 56 inches generally must be accompanying a child who meets the ride requirements. The attraction has limited capacity, so waits can be surprisingly long.

Seuss Landing Family Rides

  • The Cat in the Hat: A spinning dark ride with a 36-inch minimum height
  • The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride: An elevated family ride with a 36-inch minimum height
  • One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish: A gentle spinner with no minimum height
  • Caro-Seuss-el: A whimsical carousel with no minimum height
Universal Islands of Adventure rides

Universal Epic Universe Rides

Epic Universe is not a small add-on to the original resort. It is a full theme park with five themed worlds and enough major rides to deserve its own day. After seeing it in person, I would not try to squeeze it into a leftover afternoon.

Celestial Park

  • Stardust Racers: A racing dual-launch coaster with a 48-inch minimum height. This is one of the park’s biggest thrill rides, and loose articles are strictly prohibited.
  • Constellation Carousel: A beautiful family carousel with no minimum height.
  • Astronomica: An interactive water-play area rather than a traditional ride.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD

  • Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge: An interactive augmented-reality ride with a 40-inch minimum height. Children under 48 inches need a supervising companion.
  • Mine-Cart Madness: A Donkey Kong family coaster that appears to jump the track. The minimum height is 40 inches, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion.
  • Yoshi’s Adventure: A gentle family ride with a 34-inch minimum height. Children under 48 inches need a supervising companion.

Dark Universe

  • Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment: A highly immersive dark ride using robotic-arm vehicles. The minimum height is 48 inches. It is intense, dark and filled with classic Universal monsters.
  • Curse of the Werewolf: A spinning family coaster with a 40-inch minimum height. Children under 48 inches need a supervising companion.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic

Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry combines enormous sets, advanced ride vehicles and screen-based effects. The minimum height is 40 inches, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion. This is one of Epic Universe’s headline attractions and should be near the top of a Harry Potter fan’s list.

How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk

  • Hiccup’s Wing Gliders: A launched family coaster with a 40-inch minimum height. Children under 48 inches need a supervising companion.
  • Dragon Racer’s Rally: Riders control how much their individual vehicle spins. The minimum height is 48 inches.
  • Fyre Drill: An interactive boat ride where riders spray water. The minimum height is 36 inches, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion.
  • Viking Training Camp: A large interactive play area for younger children.

I also have a full look at Epic Universe if you want more help deciding what to prioritize there.

Universal Orlando attractions

Universal Volcano Bay Rides and Slides

Volcano Bay is a full water theme park, not a hotel pool with a few slides. Its biggest attractions include Krakatau Aqua Coaster, Ko’okiri Body Plunge, Honu of Honu ika Moana, TeAwa The Fearless River, Kala & Tai Nui Serpentine Body Slides, Ohyah & Ohno Drop Slides, Punga Racers and the Waturi Beach wave pool.

Planning note: Universal has announced a seasonal maintenance closure for Volcano Bay beginning October 26, 2026, with reopening planned on or before April 1, 2027. Check the official calendar before buying a ticket for late 2026 or early 2027.

Which Universal Orlando Park Has the Best Rides?

There is no single answer for every family, but here is how I would break it down:

  • Best for major new attractions and immersive lands: Epic Universe
  • Best for thrill rides: Islands of Adventure
  • Best mix for movie fans and gentler attractions: Universal Studios Florida
  • Best for water rides and a pool day that is actually exciting: Volcano Bay
  • Best for Harry Potter fans: All three dry parks, because each offers a different Wizarding World location

If this is your first trip and you want to experience the major rides without sprinting through everything, I would plan one day at each dry park. Add Volcano Bay if your family loves water parks. You can combine Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure in one very long day, but you will not see everything.

Universal Express Pass

Universal Express lets you use a shorter line at participating attractions. Express Pass and Express Unlimited are not the same thing: the standard version generally allows one Express use per participating attraction, while Unlimited allows repeat use.

Some Signature Collection Universal hotels include Express Unlimited for registered guests at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. Do not assume it automatically includes every attraction or Epic Universe. Check the current list and your hotel benefits before booking.

Important Things to Know Before You Ride

Height Requirements

Measure children before the trip and check Universal’s official height-requirement page. A child may be tall enough for one Harry Potter ride but not another. Universal enforces these requirements, and shoes or wishful thinking will not change the measurement.

Child Swap

Most major rides offer Child Swap. Your party waits together, one adult rides while another stays with the child, and then the adults switch without starting over in the full queue. Ask the Team Member at the entrance because the process can vary by attraction.

Loose Articles and Lockers

Several Universal rides require you to place bags and loose items in a locker. The most intense coasters—including VelociCoaster, The Incredible Hulk Coaster and Stardust Racers—use metal detectors and prohibit loose articles. Do not plan on holding your phone for a ride video.

Motion Sickness

Universal uses a lot of screens. The Simpsons Ride, Forbidden Journey, Minion Mayhem, TRANSFORMERS and Race Through New York are common trouble spots for guests who experience motion sickness. I would not stack several screen-heavy rides back-to-back.

Test Seats

Several thrill rides have test seats near the entrance. Use them. Restraints and body positioning are different from ride to ride, and trying the seat first is much better than waiting in a long line only to discover the restraint is uncomfortable.

Current 2026 Closures to Know About

  • Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit: Permanently closed
  • Fast & Furious – Supercharged: Final operating day August 16, 2026
  • Jurassic Park River Adventure: Scheduled closed through November 19, 2026
  • Universal’s Horror Make-Up Show: Temporarily closed through winter 2026
  • Volcano Bay: Seasonal closure begins October 26, 2026, with reopening planned on or before April 1, 2027

Closure dates can change. Check Universal Orlando’s official park-hours and temporary-closures page shortly before your trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many theme parks are at Universal Orlando?

Universal Orlando has three traditional theme parks—Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe—plus Volcano Bay water theme park.

Can you ride every Universal Orlando ride in one day?

No. The resort is far too large now. You could focus on highlights in Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure with a Park-to-Park ticket, but Epic Universe needs its own day and Volcano Bay is a separate experience.

Do I need a Park-to-Park ticket for the Hogwarts Express?

Yes. The Hogwarts Express connects Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, so a Park-to-Park ticket is required.

Is Epic Universe included with a regular Universal ticket?

It depends on the ticket product. Universal now offers select multi-day tickets that include Epic Universe, but not every ticket provides access to every park. Read the inclusions carefully before purchasing.

What are the best Universal Orlando rides?

My top priorities include Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Revenge of the Mummy, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, Stardust Racers, Monsters Unchained, Mine-Cart Madness and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. Your list may look different depending on how much you enjoy coasters and screen-based rides.

My Final Thoughts

Universal Orlando is no longer a simple two-park side trip. Epic Universe changed the entire resort, and there is enough to fill several days without repeating much. The best plan starts with choosing the parks that match your family, checking every child’s height and deciding which headliner matters most in each park.

Do not feel like you have to ride everything. Pick the attractions your family is genuinely excited about, leave room to explore the themed lands and expect the plan to change when Florida weather or ride downtime gets involved. That is normal. You can still have an amazing trip.
