There’s something magical about a hot summer day and an ice-cold Mojito Mocktail in your hand. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, hosting a backyard BBQ, or just looking for a way to cool down after a long day, a refreshing drink can make all the difference. One of my absolute favorite popular summer drinks is this Classic Mojito Mocktail — crisp, citrusy, and just the right amount of sweet.

I first fell in love with mojitos on a family vacation to the Florida Keys years ago. We were staying at a cute little beach cottage, and every afternoon, my husband and I would sit on the porch swing with a cold drink while the kids played in the sand. I didn’t drink alcohol, but the resort bartender was kind enough to whip me up what he called a “Virgin Mojito,” and I’ve been hooked ever since.

How to Make a Classic Mojito Mocktail

Here’s my go-to Virgin Mojito Recipe — and trust me, once you try it, you’ll keep coming back all summer long.

Mojito Mocktail ingredients

Mojito Mocktail Ingredients (Serves 2):

  • 2 limes
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 2 tablespoons agave syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 cup carbonated drink (such as soda water or sparkling water)
  • Mint leaves, for garnish

Mojito Mocktail Instructions:

  1. Cut the limes in half and squeeze the juice into a jug. If you like a little pulp in your drink, go ahead and scrape some in!
  2. Tear the mint leaves into smaller pieces and toss them into the jug with the lime juice.
  3. Pour in the agave syrup and give it all a good stir. This is where the magic starts — that citrus and mint combo is unbeatable.
  4. Add a generous handful of ice cubes to chill things down.
  5. Slowly pour in the carbonated drink, stirring gently to keep the fizz.
  6. Taste it and add a touch more agave syrup if you prefer it sweeter.
  7. For garnish, crush a few mint leaves between your fingers to release their aroma and float them on top.
  8. Serve in glasses filled with fresh ice and garnish each with a sprig of mint.

Tips and Variations

  • Want to switch things up? Try using honey or simple syrup instead of agave, or add a splash of fruit juice (like pineapple or watermelon) for a fruity twist.
  • Make it extra fancy: Serve in a tall glass with a colorful paper straw and a lime wheel on the rim.
  • Hosting a party? Just double or triple the recipe to make a pitcher!

A Go-To Among Popular Summer Drinks

This drink is now a staple in our house during the summer. I keep fresh mint growing in a pot right outside the kitchen window so I can snip a few leaves whenever the mood strikes. It’s one of those classic mojito recipes that feels a little bit like self-care — and a lot like sunshine in a glass.

If you’re new to virgin drinks, this is a great place to start. It’s simple, satisfying, and gives you all the mojito vibes without any of the alcohol. And if you’re looking for fun mocktail drinks for kids or teens, they’ll love this too (mine always ask for their own glasses when I make it!).
