If you’re visiting Disneyland during Halloween Time and you don’t have an Oogie Boogie Bash ticket, don’t panic. Your day is not ruined! You can still have an amazing Disney day—you just need to plan around Disney California Adventure closing early.
This is one of those little details that can throw off an entire fall Disneyland trip. Oogie Boogie Bash takes place at Disney California Adventure on 33 select nights in 2026. On those nights, DCA closes to regular daytime guests at 6:00 pm, and only guests with a separate Oogie Boogie Bash ticket can stay for the party.
That early closing time changes which park I would reserve, whether Park Hopper is worth the extra money and what I’d plan for the evening. Let’s go through your options so you’re not standing inside DCA at 5:45 pm wondering what to do next.
Planning a Disneyland Halloween trip? I put together a complete 2026 Disneyland Halloween Time Game Plan to make planning so much easier! It includes park plans for Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Oogie Boogie Bash and non-party nights, plus food tips, character information, packing lists, checklists and helpful bonuses. Take a peek inside the guide and find the perfect plan for your Halloween trip!
Quick Answer: What Should You Do Without an Oogie Boogie Bash Ticket?
- If you have a one-park-per-day ticket: Reserve Disneyland Park on the party night.
- If you have a Park Hopper: You can start at DCA, but hop to Disneyland before DCA closes at 6:00 pm.
- If you already reserved DCA: Enjoy the park early, then leave at 6:00 pm or upgrade to Park Hopper if that makes sense for your trip.
- If you want the longest possible park day: Disneyland Park is the easiest choice.
Here’s what I’d do for most families without party tickets: choose Disneyland Park on an Oogie Boogie Bash night. You’ll get a normal park day, and you won’t have to move tired kids—or tired adults—to a different park right before dinner.
What Is Oogie Boogie Bash?
Oogie Boogie Bash is a separately ticketed Halloween party at Disney California Adventure. It runs from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm and includes special entertainment, immersive treat trails, characters, Villains Grove, PhotoPass downloads and shorter waits for many rides. I love this party, but you absolutely do not need a Bash ticket to have a fun Halloween trip.
Party guests can enter DCA as early as 3:00 pm with their event ticket. They do not need a regular park ticket or a park reservation to enter at 3:00 pm or later.
A regular Disneyland ticket, Magic Key or DCA reservation does not include Oogie Boogie Bash. If you don’t have a party wristband, you’ll need to leave DCA when the park closes to daytime guests at 6:00 pm.
If you are attending the party on another night, my complete Oogie Boogie Bash guide has the event details, costume rules, party strategy and free printable.

2026 Oogie Boogie Bash Dates
Disney California Adventure closes early for Oogie Boogie Bash on these 2026 dates:
August 2026
August 18, 20, 23, 25, 27 and 30
September 2026
September 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 27 and 29
October 2026
October 1, 4, 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29 and 31
September 27 is a D23 Members-only party night. Most parties happen on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Halloween falling on Saturday in 2026. I always check the official Disneyland calendar again right before a trip because Disney can change park hours.
Best Option: Reserve Disneyland Park
If you have a one-park-per-day ticket and you’re not attending Oogie Boogie Bash, Disneyland Park is my pick for the party night. It’s the easiest choice by far.
You’ll get a full park day without being asked to leave at 6:00 pm. You’ll also have access to some of the best regular-admission Halloween experiences, including Haunted Mansion Holiday, Main Street’s giant Mickey pumpkin, Halloween decorations, seasonal characters and Halloween Screams when it is scheduled.
The catch is that Disneyland can get busier in the evening. Park Hopper guests start moving over from DCA before the party begins, and I usually notice that crowd shift around dinner time.
Do your biggest must-do rides in the morning and early afternoon. Then you can slow down, eat dinner, enjoy all the Halloween atmosphere and use any Lightning Lane return times you’ve saved for the evening. That feels much better than racing around after the park gets crowded.

Can You Visit DCA During the Day Without a Party Ticket?
Yes! You can absolutely visit Disney California Adventure during the day. Enter with a valid DCA ticket and park reservation just like you would on any other day—just remember that this particular park day has an earlier ending.
The difference is that your park day ends at 6:00 pm. Party guests begin entering at 3:00 pm, so there is a three-hour mix-in period when both regular guests and party guests are inside DCA.
DCA can still be a good daytime choice if:
- You’re an early riser and will arrive before rope drop.
- You’ve visited before and have a short priority list.
- You have Park Hopper and plan to move to Disneyland later.
- You’re happy ending your park day at 6:00 pm.
- You want to enjoy DCA’s Halloween attractions and decorations during the day.
If this is your first visit and you want to experience most of DCA, I’d choose a non-party day. California Adventure can absolutely fill a full day—especially if you want rides, characters, food and Cars Land after dark. I would hate for your first DCA day to end just as everything starts lighting up! Here’s my honest breakdown of whether DCA is a full-day park or a Park Hopper stop.

Should You Buy Park Hopper for an Oogie Boogie Bash Night?
Park Hopper can be useful if DCA is your only reservation option or you really want to visit both parks that day. Start early at DCA, focus on your must-dos and move to Disneyland before the 6:00 pm closing.
I would not automatically pay for Park Hopper just because of the party. If you have several park days, save the money, put DCA on a non-party day and reserve Disneyland on the Bash night. Park Hopper is helpful here, but it isn’t the only solution.
If you already bought a one-park ticket and want more flexibility, read my guide about upgrading a Disneyland ticket to Park Hopper. Upgrades are subject to availability, so don’t leave the decision until the last minute.
A Simple DCA-to-Disneyland Park Hopper Plan
If you do decide to start at DCA, here’s exactly how I’d handle the day:
- Before opening: Arrive at security 45 to 60 minutes before the posted opening time.
- Morning: Ride your biggest DCA priorities while waits are lower.
- Late morning: Finish one area before moving across the park. Don’t waste time crisscrossing.
- Afternoon: Eat before the party mix-in becomes busy, enjoy seasonal attractions and finish your DCA must-dos.
- By 5:00–5:30 pm: Start moving toward the exit. I would rather leave a little early than get caught in the crowd leaving at 6:00 pm.
- Evening: Walk across the esplanade to Disneyland and continue your day there.
Disneyland may already be getting busy when you arrive, so don’t make your entire evening depend on finding short standby waits. Pick two or three priorities, and if the lines are long, grab a snack and enjoy the atmosphere. Halloween nights at Disneyland are still fun even when you’re not checking off rides.
Can You Experience Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark?
Yes, regular DCA guests may be able to experience Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark before leaving the park. The attraction changes from Mission: BREAKOUT! to Monsters After Dark later in the day during Halloween Time.
Monsters After Dark is extremely popular, and the timing can be tricky on party nights. Check the Disneyland app for that day’s operating details and Lightning Lane availability. If it is a must-do for you, make it a real priority—do not save it for the last few minutes before DCA closes and hope for the best.
Does World of Color Run on Oogie Boogie Bash Nights?
Regular daytime guests should not plan on staying in DCA for World of Color on a party night. The park closes to guests without Oogie Boogie Bash tickets at 6:00 pm, and the normal nighttime schedule may be affected by the event.
If World of Color is important to you, schedule DCA for a non-party night and confirm the showtime in the Disneyland app. This is one of those things I would check for your exact date instead of assuming it will run.
What If You Accidentally Reserved DCA?
First, take a breath. This is fixable! Check your Disney account to see whether you can change the reservation to Disneyland. Availability changes, so keep checking if Disneyland is not open right away.
If you can’t change it, you still have options:
- Keep DCA and make the most of an early, focused park day.
- Upgrade to Park Hopper if it is available and worth the cost.
- Leave at 6:00 pm and spend the evening in Downtown Disney or at your hotel.
- If you have multiple park days, rearrange the rest of your reservations so you still get a full DCA day later.
It is still not a ruined day. Go in early with a short priority list, enjoy what you can and treat the 6:00 pm closing as part of the plan—not an unpleasant surprise.
What to Do After DCA Closes at 6:00 pm
If you don’t have Park Hopper, you still have a few good choices:
- Have dinner and shop in Downtown Disney.
- Explore the Disneyland Resort hotels.
- Go back to your hotel for an early night before rope drop.
- Plan a pool, movie or rest evening with your family.
Honestly, a shorter day is not always a bad thing. Disneyland trips are exhausting! Sometimes dinner in Downtown Disney and an early night is exactly what everyone needs. I would rather plan a fun rest evening than pay for an upgrade nobody has the energy to use.
Is a Regular DCA Ticket Worth It on a Party Day?
It can be—but only if you go in knowing you’re paying for a shorter park day.
For repeat visitors, adults who move quickly or families who want an early night, a DCA ticket can still be worthwhile. For first-time visitors who want a full Disney day, I would choose another date or reserve Disneyland instead.
Don’t assume the daytime will be empty just because the park closes early. Some guests specifically choose party days hoping for lower crowds, and party guests begin entering at 3:00 pm.

My Final Recommendation
If this were my trip and I didn’t have Oogie Boogie Bash tickets, I would reserve Disneyland Park on the party night and visit DCA on a non-party day. It is the least stressful plan, especially for first-time visitors and families with younger kids.
If you already have Park Hopper, starting at DCA can work really well. Arrive early, pick your priorities and head to Disneyland before the 6:00 pm rush. I’d rather be walking across the esplanade at 5:15 than joining the big exit crowd at 6:00.
Most importantly, please don’t feel like you’re missing all the Halloween fun because you don’t have party tickets. Halloween Time is included with regular park admission, and there is so much to enjoy—decorations, attraction overlays, seasonal characters and all the fun food. My complete Disneyland Halloween Time guide covers everything you can experience without attending Oogie Boogie Bash.

Oogie Boogie Bash Night FAQs
Do you have to leave DCA during Oogie Boogie Bash?
Yes. Regular daytime guests without an Oogie Boogie Bash ticket must leave Disney California Adventure when it closes for the party at 6:00 pm.
Can you stay in DCA with a regular park ticket?
No. Oogie Boogie Bash requires a separate event ticket. A regular ticket, Magic Key or park reservation does not allow you to remain in DCA after the party begins.
Does Disneyland Park close early for Oogie Boogie Bash?
No. Oogie Boogie Bash is held at Disney California Adventure. Disneyland Park usually keeps its regular operating schedule, although you should always confirm hours for your date.
Do you need Park Hopper if you don’t have party tickets?
No. The easiest option is to reserve Disneyland Park on the party night. Park Hopper is only necessary if you want to begin at DCA and continue at Disneyland after DCA closes.
Can you buy Oogie Boogie Bash tickets at the gate?
No. Disney says event tickets must be purchased online and are not available on the day of the event. Dates can sell out, so don’t arrive expecting to add a party ticket at the entrance.
