Planning a Disneyland trip in September 2026? September is one of the most festive months at Disneyland Resort because Halloween Time is in full swing, but the weather still feels much more like summer than fall.
This guide covers the best September dates, crowds, weather, current ride closures, Halloween entertainment, Oogie Boogie Bash nights, Gay Days, ticket offers, and exactly what to pack. September can be a great month to visit, especially on a midweek date after Labor Day, but the party schedule and afternoon heat make planning important.
The video above gives you a helpful feel for Disneyland in September. Use the updated 2026 dates and details in this article for your current trip planning.

Disney’s Kids’ Summer Ticket Offer can be used through September 7, 2026. Children ages 3 through 9 can visit for $50 with a special one-day Park Hopper ticket, and two-day and three-day options are also available. Disney is also offering up to 15% off select Disneyland Resort hotel stays on Sunday through Thursday nights through September 7.
September deal eligibility depends heavily on your travel dates. I keep the current ticket discounts, deadlines and hotel specials in my Disneyland Halloween Deals 2026 guide so you can compare the options before booking. Disneyland Crowds in September 2026

September crowds are usually lower than October crowds, especially on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after Labor Day. Halloween Time is popular, so the parks will not feel empty, but September gives you several strong midweek options before the busiest part of the season.
Labor Day weekend runs September 5–7 and will bring more holiday-weekend visitors. Gay Days Anaheim takes place September 18–20 and can also increase attendance and hotel demand. If your dates overlap either weekend, book your hotel and park reservations early.
September Dates Expected to Have the Lowest Crowds
Disney published ten September dates with its lowest-priced $104 one-day, one-park ticket. Ticket pricing is not a perfect crowd forecast, but these dates are expected to have some of the lowest crowds of the month:
- Tuesday, September 8
- Wednesday, September 9
- Tuesday, September 15
- Wednesday, September 16
- Thursday, September 17
- Monday, September 21
- Tuesday, September 22
- Wednesday, September 23
- Thursday, September 24
- Tuesday, September 29
Ticket prices and reservation availability can change, so check Disneyland’s current ticket calendar before buying.
How Oogie Boogie Bash Affects September Crowds
Disney California Adventure closes to regular guests at 6:00 pm on Oogie Boogie Bash nights. DCA can be very manageable earlier in the day because some guests choose Disneyland instead, but Disneyland often becomes busier in the late afternoon and evening as Park Hopper guests move over from DCA.
If you have a one-park ticket for DCA on a party date and do not have an Oogie Boogie Bash ticket, your park day ends at 6:00 pm. A Park Hopper gives you the option to move to Disneyland, or you can choose Disneyland as your starting park if evening hours are important to you.
Visiting on an Oogie Boogie Bash date but not attending the party? I have a whole guide explaining exactly how I’d plan that day, including which park to reserve and what to do when DCA closes at 6:00 pm.
Arriving before park opening is still one of the best ways to get more done. My Disneyland rope drop guide explains exactly how to use the quieter morning hours.

Disneyland Weather in September
September is still hot in Anaheim. Average highs are usually in the mid-80s, with average lows in the mid-60s, but heat waves can push afternoon temperatures well into the 90s. Rain is uncommon.
Pack for summer weather even though the parks are decorated for fall. Plan indoor attractions, a hotel break, or a longer meal during the hottest part of the afternoon. Drink water throughout the day and check the forecast before leaving home.
A light layer can still be useful late at night, especially if you get cold after dark. My guides to handling Disneyland heat and what to wear to Disneyland can help you prepare.
Disneyland Events in September 2026
Halloween Time at Disneyland

Halloween Time runs from August 21 through October 31, 2026, so every September date includes the full seasonal experience. Disneyland Park is filled with pumpkins, Mickey and friends wear new Halloween outfits, seasonal food and merchandise arrive throughout the resort, and Cars Land becomes Radiator Screams.
- Haunted Mansion Holiday features Jack Skellington and characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas
- Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark takes over later in the day
- Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween bring seasonal music and decorations to Cars Land
- Mickey’s Trick and Treat is a family-friendly interactive show with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald
- Halloween Screams runs on select nights from August 21 through October 31, with fireworks added on select evenings
Halloween Screams includes projections, music, villains, Jack Skellington, and Zero. Nights with fireworks are listed as “Halloween Screams with Fireworks” in the Disneyland app. Fireworks and entertainment are subject to weather and schedule changes.
Halloween Time is designed to be fun and family-friendly rather than gory or horror-focused. My complete 2026 Disneyland Halloween guide has much more detail about decorations, attraction overlays, characters, entertainment, and food.
Plaza de la Familia
Plaza de la Familia runs at Disney California Adventure from August 21 through November 2, 2026. This beautiful celebration of family and Día de los Muertos includes Coco-inspired entertainment, live mariachi music, colorful decorations, a memory wall, crafts, and seasonal food in Paradise Gardens Park.
“The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia Celebrate the Musical World of Coco!” brings songs including “Remember Me” and “The World Es Mi Familia” to life throughout the season.
World of Color – ONE
World of Color – ONE returns to Disney California Adventure on August 10 and continues through the Halloween season. Check the Disneyland app for showtimes and virtual queue information during your visit.
Oogie Boogie Bash September Dates

Oogie Boogie Bash is a separately ticketed Halloween party at Disney California Adventure. The party runs from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm, and event-ticket holders can enter DCA beginning at 3:00 pm.
September 2026 party dates: September 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 27, and 29.
September 27 is a D23 Member-exclusive party night. My complete Oogie Boogie Bash guide includes ticket details, party strategy, treat trails, entertainment, costumes, and a printable.
Gay Days Anaheim
Gay Days Anaheim takes place September 18–20, 2026. This is a fan-created event rather than an official Disneyland event, and the parks remain open to everyone. Attendees traditionally wear red shirts, and the weekend includes park meetups and other gatherings around the resort.
The event can increase park attendance and hotel demand, particularly at Disneyland on Saturday and Disney California Adventure on Sunday.
Disneyland Ride Closures in September 2026
Disneyland often schedules refurbishments after the summer season, and additional September closures can be added close to the travel dates. As of August 9, the following closures are scheduled or expected to affect September visits:
- Indiana Jones Adventure: Scheduled to close beginning September 8; reopening date has not been posted
- Mark Twain Riverboat: Scheduled to close beginning September 8; reopening date has not been posted
- Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition: Closed with no confirmed reopening date
- Silly Symphony Swings: May remain closed into fall 2026; check the app for current status
Haunted Mansion Holiday is scheduled to be open throughout September after its seasonal transformation is completed in August. Always check the official Disneyland refurbishment calendar and the Disneyland app shortly before your trip because closure dates can change.
What to Expect at Disneyland in September
Haunted Mansion Holiday will be one of the most popular attractions of the month. Its Lightning Lane return times can move quickly, so make it one of your earlier Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections if it is important to your group.
The afternoon heat can make the parks feel more tiring than the crowd level suggests. Use the cooler morning for outdoor attractions, take a slower pace during the hottest hours, and enjoy the Halloween decorations again after dark when Cars Land and Main Street look especially good.
On Oogie Boogie Bash nights, check both parks’ hours before deciding where to start. Disneyland will usually have the longer evening, while DCA can offer a productive morning and early afternoon before its 6:00 pm closure.
What to Pack for Disneyland in September

- Sunscreen and sunglasses
- A refillable water bottle
- A portable fan or cooling towel
- Comfortable shoes and breathable clothes
- A light layer for late evenings
- A portable phone charger
- Any costume pieces needed for Oogie Boogie Bash, packed according to Disney’s current costume rules
My printable Disneyland packing list and park bag guide can help you remember the small things that make a hot park day easier.
September Disneyland Planning Tips
- Arrive before park opening. The first part of the morning usually has the most manageable waits.
- Check the Oogie Boogie Bash calendar. DCA closes at 6:00 pm on party nights.
- Prioritize Haunted Mansion Holiday. Use an early standby strategy or book Lightning Lane Multi Pass before return times become limited.
- Mobile order meals early. Popular seasonal food can draw long ordering windows.
- Plan around the heat. Use indoor attractions and meals during the hottest hours.
- Check entertainment schedules daily. Halloween Screams fireworks, World of Color, and other showtimes can vary.
- Review closures before your trip. September refurbishment schedules can change with short notice.
Is September a Good Time to Visit Disneyland?
Yes. September is a great choice if you want the complete Disneyland Halloween experience with more midweek crowd opportunities than October. The strongest dates are generally after Labor Day and outside the Gay Days weekend, especially if you can visit on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
The tradeoffs are hot weather, possible refurbishment closures, and the 6:00 pm DCA closing time on 13 party nights. Once you plan around those details, September can be one of the most fun and colorful times of the entire year at Disneyland.
