What To Wear To Disneyland In July
Let’s get going! Here’s a list of great options on what to wear to Disneyland in July.
Plan For Heat
Many people assume that Southern California has very mild weather. This is true for the winter months, but it gets very hot during the summer. The average high is 84 degrees F. The average low is 66 degrees F. The park often feels even hotter because of all the concrete and people around. I’ve got lots of information about beating the heat at Disneyland that will be helpful.
Be sure to check the weather forecast as you’re planning your vacation. You’ll want to know what the daytime temperatures will be so that you’re prepared for the California weather. This will really help you plan what to wear to Disneyland in July.
Be Comfortable
Choose to wear things that you feel comfortable in. This is so important! This is not the time to wear something uncomfortable(save those high heels for a different vacation!). You’ll be walking around the parks all day in the heat and you don’t want the clothes you are wearing to add to your discomfort. Keep in mind, that you’ll be climbing in and out of rides all day long. So, choose clothing that’s easy to move in, breathable and comfortable.
Tops
Choose tops that are light and breathable. I’m always more comfortable when I visit Disneyland in July if I’m wearing lighter colors. Tank tops or short sleeve shirts are the best option. Please stay away from long sleeves unless it’s incredibly lightweight and you’re concerned about keeping the sun off of your arms.
I like to bring a light jacket with me on my Disneyland vacation. Although the days can be quite hot at the happiest place on earth, the nights can get a little cool. If you don’t want to carry a jacket around with you all day, consider renting a locker to store your extra stuff in.
Bottoms
Choose bottoms that are lightweight and breathable. This is not the time for heavy denim. Chance are you’ll want to enjoy some of the water rides like Splash Mountain and Grizzly River Run. These attractions are a great way to cool off, but you will get wet! Wet jeans are pretty miserable. They are heavy, take forever to dry, and can cause uncomfortable chafing.
I like to wear a pair of shorts or capris that will dry quickly if they get wet. I found some great quick-drying capris on Amazon that I love! They have zippered pockets that are great for holding my phone and they dry so quickly!
Shoes
You’re going to want some comfortable shoes for walking around the parks all day at Disneyland in July. I know a lot of people will recommend you wear tennis shoes, but I really prefer sandals in the hotter months. Not just a pair of cheap flip flops, but some really supportive sandals like Tevas. My favorite sandals to wear in the parks are Crocs sandals. They are so comfortable, and supportive and my feet never hurt at the end of the day! Plus, I can wear them on all the water rides and not have to worry about wet tennis shoes.
I don’t think there’s one right pair of shoes for everyone. We all have different feet and different needs. The most important thing is to wear a pair of shoes that are supportive and comfortable.
I have a post about the best shoes for Disneyland here.
Also, don’t buy a new pair of shoes and break them in during your Disney trip. You’ll get blisters for sure! If you find yourself with a blister and no bandaids, ask any of the cast members to point you towards the first aid station. Make sure your shoes are broken in and comfortable before you show up for your Disney vacation.
Hat
A hat to keep the sun off of your face is a good idea! I like to bring a hat in my park bag whenever I’m visiting Disneyland park. The midday sun can be brutal, and a hat can really save the day! If hats aren’t your thing, consider bringing a small pocket umbrella to create your own shade in long lines. A little shade goes a long way on warm days.
Sunscreen
Wearing sunscreen is so important! Even if you are not worried about getting sunburned, please put on some type of sunscreen to protect your skin. I really prefer a mineral-based sunscreen because I’m fair and they seem to protect my skin much better. You can find some great mineral-based sunscreens on Amazon.
What Not To Wear To Disneyland
The Disney parks don’t have a special dress code, but they do have a few things that they find inappropriate and do not allow guests to wear them in their parks. Here’s the info on inappropriate attire from the Disneyland Website.
Attire that is not appropriate for the theme parks (and which may result in refusal of admittance or ejection) includes but is not limited to:
- Costumes may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older
- Masks may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older (unless they are for medical purposes)
- Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
- Excessively torn clothing or loose fitting clothing which may drag on the ground and create a potential trip hazard
- Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment
- Clothing with multiple layers are subject to search upon entry
- Visible tattoos that could be considered inappropriate, such as those containing objectionable language or designs
- Bare feet
Tips for Visiting Disneyland In July
Here are a few tips for visiting Disneyland in July. If you’re looking for more helpful planning tips and information, I’ve got tons of it! You can find my full guide to Disneyland in July here. It includes a crowd calendar, list of ride closures, events and more!
Arrive early
Take advantage of the cooler morning hours! Early mornings will not only be cooler, but it will also be less crowded. I recommend rope dropping Disneyland if possible. Rope dropping means you arrive early and are lined up in front of the castle before the park even opens. By doing this, you’ll already be in the parks and enjoying the attractions while other guests are just getting out of bed and wondering what to do for breakfast. I’ve got a full guide to rope dropping at Disneyland here.
Drink Water
Drink lots of water or diet coke. Whatever you want, but make sure you stay hydrated! Allowing yourself to become dehydrated is the best way to have a miserable day at Disneyland. Disneyland sells bottled water but it can be quite expensive. I prefer to bring a refillable water bottle. You can also as for cups of free ice water at any of the quick-service dining options.
Take Midday Break
If things start to get overwhelmingly hot, take a break midday. You could head back to your hotel to swim in the pool and nap. Or, take a midday break while you’re in the parks. You could grab a dole whip and watch the show in the Tiki Room. When I’m visiting Disneyland in July, I like to make dining reservations for lunch. Having an air-conditioned place to sit down for an hour or so during the heat of the day is really helpful!
Have A Treat
There’s nothing better than a cold treat on a hot day! There are so many yummy treat options at Disneyland. Of course, there are your standard ice cream bars and ice cream cones. Those are always a crowd-pleaser.
My favorite treat on a hot day is a Dole Whip. You can find them in Tropical Hideaway or at a little stand near the Tiki Room. I especially love the dole whip float. It’s so refreshing!
