15 Reasons Why You Should Visit Disneyland
Here are 15 reasons why you should visit Disneyland. There are tons more, but I decided to limit myself to the top 15 because I realize you have things to do and can’t spend your entire day reading about Disneyland! 🙂
Walt’s Original Theme Park
Disneyland is the first of Walt Disney’s theme parks. He thought of the idea for Disneyland park while he was sitting on a bench watching his children ride the carousel in L.A’s Griffith Park. He was daydreaming about a safe, happy place where kids and adults could have fun together. Once the idea was in his head, he couldn’t shake it and Disneyland was born!
Disneyland opened in 1955. Walking through Disneyland is like walking through a little bit of history. Many of the same rides from the opening day are still there today! There’s even a tour called “Walk In Walt’s Footsteps” that showcases the history and fun facts around Disneyland in Walt’s day.
Walt Disney put a lot of thought and care into the development of his park and many people prefer Disneyland over Walt Disney World because they feel like it’s just a little more special because it was created by the founder of Disney.
Family Friendly
Disneyland is an incredibly family-friendly place. Kids and adults can have the best time without worrying about the environment. Disneyland caters to kids! They are welcome there and encouraged to be themselves! In fact, it’s probably a good idea if parents embrace their inner child too! You’ll have more fun if you do. There’s nothing for kids to break, they don’t have to be quiet and there’s plenty of child-friendly food! Kids can just enjoy being themselves!
Affordable Hotels
There are so many affordable hotels around Disneyland! There are three Disney on-site hotels on the property(Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian, and Paradise Pier), but there are so many other hotels to choose from! There are tons of hotels around Disneyland that are very affordable and many of them are within walking distance of the parks. I prefer to stay at a hotel within walking distance. At Disneyland, you don’t need to stay on property to have a great time. I’ve got some hotel reviews here that might be helpful for you to check out.
Great Weather
The great weather is one of the reasons why you should visit Disneyland! Southern California usually has very mild weather. It does get hot in the summer and that heat can linger into the fall, but it’s nothing compared to the heat and humidity at DisneyWorld in Orlando! Even when it’s hot, the evenings usually cool right down and are quite pleasant. If you’re wondering what to expect from the weather on your trip. I’ve got a guide called “Best Times To Visit Disneyland” that has the average weather for each month of the year along with other helpful info like a Disneyland crowd calendar and packing lists.
Pedestrian Destination
Disneyland is the ultimate pedestrian destination. As long as you get a hotel nearby, you can walk everywhere! I love this about the Disneyland Resort. I can park my car at the hotel(or get dropped off at my hotel by an uber or shuttle) and not have to drive anywhere else for the rest of my vacation! All of the entertainment, shopping, and restaurants are all within walking distance. It’s great to walk over to Downtown Disney and enjoy a meal on the day you arrive. Sometimes, I like to walk back to my hotel at midday for a little break. Everything around the Disneyland resort is very easily accessible.
Smaller Size
Disneyland is much smaller in size than DisneyWorld. This is a good reason why you should visit Disneyland. Because it’s smaller, it’s much easier to navigate. It still has all the amazing rides and attractions that you expect from a Disney park, but it’s just a bit smaller. You can easily walk from Disneyland Park to Disney California Adventure Park. They are right across from each other and it will only take you about 3 minutes to walk between them. It will take you about 3 minutes to walk from Disneyland to the Downtown Disney District. It’s so nice that everything is so close and accessible! No waiting around for shuttles to take you around. You can just easily walk!
Amazing Rides
Disneyland has some pretty amazing rides! Disney Imagineers take great care to create an experience with each attraction, not just a short ride. So, with each ride, you are immersed in a story. The Matterhorn Bobsleds is not just a roller coaster. You’re climbing the actual Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps and being chased by a yeti! Rides like Snow White’s Enchanted Wish place you inside the fairytale with the princess and evil queen. Some of the very best Disney storytelling happens in Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s all pretty spectacular and just adds to the magic of Disneyland!
One of the great things about Disneyland is that it has a bunch of rides that families can enjoy together. Many of their rides do not have height requirements. This is so great news for families with small children! You can all experience rides like “it’s a small world” and Peter Pan’s flight together. I’ve got a full ride guide to all the attractions at Disneyland that includes height requirements and info on rider switch, single rider line, and genie plus lightning lanes. Check it out!
Disney Characters
Meeting your favorite Disney character is definitely a reason why you should visit Disneyland! There’s nothing quite like hugging Mickey Mouse or having Captain America sign your Autograph book. I love visiting Tinkerbell in Pixie Hollow! You can often find Peter Pan and Captain Hook wandering around Fantasyland. Watch out for the Storm Troopers around Galaxy’s Edge!
I’ve got a whole post on Finding and interacting with characters at Disneyland. Check it out here so you don’t miss seeing your favorite Disney character!
Great Entertainment
Rides aren’t the only thing to do at Disneyland! The stellar entertainment is one of the reasons why you should visit Disneyland. There are tons of amazing entertainment options throughout both parks! I love listening to the Dapper Dans sing on Main street. Or watching a live performance of Tangled at the Royal Theater. Over in Disney’s California Adventure Park, you can watch a show featuring Dr. Strange in the Inner Sanctum. If you have little ones, don’t miss the Disney Jr. Dance Party! The entertainment is plentiful and free. It’s all very well done and really adds some fun to your Disney day! Make sure you take a little time to enjoy it!
Themed Lands
Disneyland is known for its awesome themed lands! Disneyland really shines when it comes to details and they’ve included so many incredible details in each of their themed lands! If you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ll love Galaxy’s Edge! Fantasyland is the perfect place to get in touch with your inner princess. Keep a sharp eye out for pirates when you’re in New Orleans Square! Avengers Campus is very popular, but my favorite is Carsland. It’s one of the best-themed lands in any of the Disney parks.
Parades & Fireworks
The parades and fireworks are another reason why you should visit Disneyland. These aren’t your little town parades or dinky fireworks shows. The parades and fireworks at Disneyland are top-notch! They are so much fun and you really shouldn’t miss them! If you’re looking for the best place to watch the parade or fireworks show, I’ve got a complete guide to parades and fireworks at Disneyland that will be really helpful for you.
Delicious Food
Disneyland doesn’t have the standard greasy food options you find at most amusement parks. They’ve actually got some really great food! They have definitely upped their food game in the last few years and it’s really paid off! Check out my Instagram page for my favorite Disneyland food. I’ve got a guide filled with the very best options! The delicious food is another good reason why you should visit Disneyland.
If you’re looking to save time, I recommend mobile ordering using the Disneyland app. You can mobile order at most quick-service restaurants. I’ve got a list of the top quick-service options at Disneyland and quick-service options at California Adventure to check out.
If you’re looking for sit-down dining options, Blue Bayou, Carnation Cafe, and Napa Rose are all very popular. Dining reservations are recommended at sit-down locations and can be made 60 days in advance.
Holiday & Seasonal Events
Disneyland is famous for its seasonal special events like Lunar New Year, The Food & Wine Festival, and Grad Nites at Disneyland. They always have something fun going on to keep things new and fresh.
Halloween Time at the Disneyland resort is a really big deal! They go all out with decorations, special ride overlays specialty food options. They even have a special Halloween party called Oogie Boogie Bash which is so much fun!
For the Holiday season, Disneyland really turns up the magic! The decorations are impressive and the holiday magic is everywhere! They have special holiday ride overlays and the special holiday food offerings are always so yummy! Merriest Nites is a special event holiday party that is held at Disneyland.
Make Memories
Making memories with your family is so important. I’m a huge believer in creating family memories whenever you can. Those memories will be with you forever and will bring you so much joy in the years to come. I hate to tell you this, but kids grow up. Someday, they will be up and moved out and those memories that you’ve created with them will be even more precious.
I grew up going to Disneyland occasionally and I always enjoyed it. But, it wasn’t until I took my boys on their first Disney trip when they were little that I really fell in love with Disneyland. Experiencing Disneyland through their eyes was something I’ll never forget. It was pure magic! Now, my boys are mostly grown up and have one foot out the door. I’m so glad I got to experience the magic with them when they were little. I know they don’t remember much from that first visit, but I have so many precious memories from that trip. Memories that I hold dear.
I want you to create those same types of memories with your family. It’s one of the main reasons why you should visit Disneyland. Visiting Disneyland is an easy way to create memories. They’ve got everything you need for an amazing vacation. All you have to do is show up, enjoy and take lots of pictures and videos.
Experience The Magic
One of the very best things I have on my list of reasons why you should visit Disneyland is because you need to experience the magic. Unfortunately, magic in our daily lives is often hard to come by. It’s in short supply. We hustle through our days accomplishing things on our list and meeting the needs of those around us. Most of us have a lot of stress brought on by work, families, finances, and the world that we live in. When you visit Disneyland, you get to check all that stress at the gate. You enter a world filled with magic. A world where good always defeats evil and where everyone gets their happy ending. It’s a pretty special place. They call it the happiest place on earth for a reason!
For me, the magic and happiness that I experience at Disneyland is kind of like a balm for my soul. It’s a safe haven and a place of rest. I can take a break from the stress and cares of the world and enjoy a place that feels more like the way I wish the world really was. I hope you get to experience that magic from Disneyland soon.
Thanks for reading my list of 15 reasons why you should visit Disneyland. I hope it was helpful for you. I’m really excited about your Disneyland vacation! I hope you get to visit soon.
