Are you planning a Disneyland vacation and wondering when you should go? The best time to visit Disneyland depends on what matters most to your family. Some people want the lowest crowds possible. Others want warm weather, longer park hours, Halloween Time or all the Christmas magic. There isn’t one perfect month for everyone, but there are definitely better times for different kinds of trips!

Here’s the quick answer: If smaller crowds are your top priority, look at select weekdays in late January, February, early May and late August or early September. If you want seasonal magic, visit from August 21 through October 31 for Halloween Time or November 13 through January 6, 2027 for the holidays. Just remember that Disneyland crowd patterns can change quickly, so there is no guaranteed “empty” day.

In this guide, I’ll give you a quick overview of every month of 2026 so you can see the weather, crowds and special events you may run into. I’ve also linked my complete monthly Disneyland guides. I’ll help you sort through all of it without making you feel like you need a spreadsheet just to choose a date.

Whether this is your first visit or you’re a Magic Key holder, I hope this guide helps you find the best time to visit Disneyland for your family.

Best Time To Visit Disneyland In 2026

Choosing the best month is really about deciding what matters most to you. Smaller crowds, comfortable weather and seasonal celebrations don’t always happen at the same time. Here are the windows I’d look at first:

  • Best chance for smaller crowds: Select midweek dates in late January, February, early May and late August or early September, excluding holiday weekends.
  • Best weather: March, April and November usually have comfortable daytime temperatures, although rain is always possible.
  • Best for Halloween: Halloween Time runs August 21 through October 31, 2026.
  • Best for Christmas: The holidays run November 13, 2026 through January 6, 2027.
  • Best for longer hours: Summer and peak holiday periods usually have the longest park hours, but they can also bring bigger crowds.

Disneyland changes hours and entertainment schedules throughout the year, so always check the official Disneyland calendar before your trip.

January

January can be one of the easier months to visit once the holiday crowds leave. Avoid New Year’s week and Martin Luther King Jr. weekend if crowds are your main concern. Park hours may be shorter and Disneyland often schedules refurbishments during the winter, so check the attraction calendar before you go. In 2026, Lunar New Year began January 23 at Disney California Adventure. Find my full guide to Disneyland in January here.

February

February is often a good choice for cooler weather and select lower-crowd weekdays. Presidents Day weekend can be very busy, and rain or attraction refurbishments are always possible. Lunar New Year continued through February 22 in 2026, bringing food, entertainment and beautiful decorations to Disney California Adventure. Find my full guide to Disneyland in February here.

March

March brings beautiful weather, spring break crowds and the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival. The 2026 festival ran March 6 through April 27. Earlier March weekdays can feel easier than the peak spring break weeks, but crowd levels vary because schools break at different times. Find my full guide to Disneyland in March here.

April

April usually has lovely weather, but spring break and Easter can make it one of the busier times to visit. The Food & Wine Festival continued through April 27 in 2026, so there was plenty to enjoy at Disney California Adventure. Later April dates may be more manageable once most school breaks end, but I would still plan for crowds. Find my full guide to Disneyland in April here.

May

Early May can be a sweet spot between spring break and summer vacation. The weather is usually pleasant, but Grad Nite events on select dates can make Disney California Adventure and the surrounding areas feel busier later in the day. Memorial Day weekend also draws bigger crowds. Find more information in my Disneyland Grad Nite guide and my complete guide to Disneyland in May.

June

June brings summer vacations, longer park hours and warmer afternoons. Grad Nites may continue into June, and crowds generally increase as more schools get out for the summer. The good news is that June is usually more comfortable than the hottest part of late summer, especially in the mornings and evenings. Find my full guide to Disneyland in June here.

July

July usually means hot weather, long park hours and lots of summer visitors. The Fourth of July holiday can be especially busy, but summer crowd patterns aren’t always as predictable as people expect. Arrive early, take a midday break if you need one and use the final hours before closing when waits may improve. Find my full guide to Disneyland in July here.

August

August is hot, but it also brings the beginning of Halloween season! In 2026, Halloween decorations arrive at Disney California Adventure beginning August 18, with full Halloween Time offerings beginning August 21. Haunted Mansion may close briefly earlier in the month while the holiday overlay is installed, and Disney California Adventure closes early on Oogie Boogie Bash nights. Find my full guide to Disneyland in August here.

September

September is one of my favorite times to visit because Halloween Time is in full swing. It can still be very hot, and Labor Day weekend plus Oogie Boogie Bash nights can affect crowds and park hours. On party nights, Disney California Adventure closes to daytime guests at 6:00 p.m., so check the schedule carefully before choosing your park. Find my full guide to Disneyland in September here.

Disneyland in September

October

October is packed with Halloween fun through October 31. It’s also very popular, especially around fall breaks, holiday weekends and Oogie Boogie Bash dates. Temperatures can still feel like summer early in the month, so don’t pack only sweaters because the calendar says fall! Find my full guide to Disneyland in October here.

November

November gives you two very different Disneyland experiences. The first part of the month is a transition between Halloween and Christmas, and then Holidays at the Disneyland Resort begins November 13, 2026. I love visiting once the holiday decorations, entertainment and seasonal attraction overlays are ready, but Thanksgiving week can be very crowded. Find my full guide to Disneyland in November here.

December

December is one of the most magical and most popular times to visit Disneyland. The holidays run all month and continue through January 6, 2027. Early December weekdays are usually a better choice than the week between Christmas and New Year’s, which is one of the busiest periods of the year. Pack layers because mornings and evenings can be chilly, and rain is possible. Find my full guide to Disneyland in December here.
