Disneyland begins decorating for Halloween gradually in August. Disney does not publish an exact installation schedule, so there is not one morning when every pumpkin suddenly appears. For 2026, Halloween Time officially runs from August 21 through October 31, and the major decorations and seasonal offerings should be ready when the celebration begins.

If you visit before August 21, you may catch part of the transformation, but I would not plan an early-August trip expecting the full Halloween experience. This guide explains what usually appears first, when the parks should be fully decorated and what to expect during the transition.

When Does Disneyland Decorate for Halloween?

Disneyland usually begins installing Halloween decorations during August, with more decor appearing as the official season gets closer. Much of the work happens overnight, so guests may leave a fairly summery Main Street and return the next morning to find new pumpkins, bunting or fall displays.

The important thing to know is that Disney does not announce a public, day-by-day decorating calendar. Photos from previous years can help us understand the general pattern, but they cannot guarantee what will be installed on a specific pre-season date in 2026.

If seeing the complete Halloween transformation is important to you, book your visit for August 21 or later. That is the first official day of Halloween Time in 2026 and the safest date for expecting the main park decorations, seasonal attraction overlays and advertised entertainment.

Disneyland Halloween Time 2026 Dates

  • Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort: August 21 through October 31, 2026
  • Plaza de la Familia: August 21 through November 2, 2026
  • Oogie Boogie Bash: 33 select nights from August 18 through October 31, 2026
  • Haunted Mansion Holiday returns: August 21, 2026

The first Oogie Boogie Bash happens a few days before the official Halloween Time kickoff. That means Disney California Adventure will have party decor and event areas ready for those early event nights. However, regular daytime guests should still use August 21 as the official start date for the complete advertised Halloween season.

Disneyland Halloween Decorating Timeline

Early August

Early August usually still feels like summer at Disneyland. Behind-the-scenes work may be underway, and Haunted Mansion may be closed while its holiday overlay is installed, but most guests should not expect the parks to look fully decorated for Halloween.

Middle of August

More fall colors, window displays, banners and smaller pieces may begin appearing. The transition is gradual and can vary from one land to another. Cars Land and Oogie Boogie Bash areas in Disney California Adventure may be further along because the first 2026 party is August 18.

The Final Days Before Halloween Time

The biggest visual elements are often saved for closer to the celebration. This is when guests are most likely to see the Main Street Pumpkin Festival take shape, including the giant Mickey pumpkin near the entrance. Disney can complete a surprising amount of decorating overnight.

August 21 and After

By the official opening day, the major decorations should be in place and the advertised Halloween experiences begin. Haunted Mansion Holiday returns, the seasonal entertainment starts and the parks are ready for the full celebration. Individual displays or offerings can still change, but this is the date I would choose if the decorations are a major reason for your trip.

Where to Find Halloween Decorations

Main Street, U.S.A. Pumpkin Festival

Main Street, U.S.A. has Disneyland Park’s most recognizable Halloween decorations. Hundreds of pumpkins, jack-o’-lanterns and fall details fill the storefronts and lamp posts. The giant Mickey pumpkin near the park entrance is the classic photo spot, but take time to look at the smaller pumpkins because many have designs inspired by the businesses along Main Street.

Haunted Mansion Holiday

Haunted Mansion Holiday is more than a few decorations. The entire attraction receives a seasonal overlay inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. The mansion’s exterior, queue and interior all change, and the attraction returns for the season on August 21, 2026.

Cars Land Haul-O-Ween

Cars Land has some of the most creative decorations in either park. Radiator Springs becomes Radiator Screams, with automotive-inspired spiders, cones, pumpkins and clever Halloween details. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters also receive seasonal versions during Halloween Time.

Buena Vista Street

Disney California Adventure welcomes guests with the enormous Headless Horseman statue and purple Halloween accents around Buena Vista Street. This area is especially beautiful in the evening when the lighting gives the decorations a moodier look.

Plaza de la Familia

Plaza de la Familia adds colorful Día de los Muertos-inspired decor, marigolds and family-centered displays to Paradise Gardens. It runs slightly longer than Halloween Time, continuing through November 2, 2026.

Downtown Disney and the Disneyland Hotels

Downtown Disney and the Disneyland Resort hotels also add fall and Halloween touches, but their decorating schedules may not match the theme parks exactly. If those decorations are important to your plans, visit after the official August 21 kickoff rather than relying on a pre-season date.

When Do Disneyland Halloween Decorations Come Down?

Halloween Time ends on October 31, and Disneyland begins transitioning to the holiday season very quickly. Many Halloween decorations can disappear during the first days of November as Christmas trees, garlands and holiday displays take their place.

Plaza de la Familia continues through November 2, so that area remains available a little longer. Haunted Mansion Holiday also continues beyond Halloween as part of the holiday season. Because the changeover happens in stages, guests visiting at the beginning of November may see a mix of fall, Halloween and Christmas decorations.

Tips for Seeing the Halloween Decorations

  1. Visit August 21 or later. This is the safest choice if you want the complete 2026 Halloween transformation.
  2. Take photos early. Main Street and the Mickey pumpkin become much busier later in the day. Rope drop gives you more room and softer morning light.
  3. See the parks after dark. Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and Haunted Mansion Holiday feel completely different when the seasonal lighting turns on.
  4. Check both parks. Disneyland Park has the classic pumpkins, while Disney California Adventure has the more elaborate land-wide transformations.
  5. Know the party schedule. Disney California Adventure closes early to regular guests on Oogie Boogie Bash nights. My Oogie Boogie Bash guide explains the current party hours and details.
  6. Plan for crowds. Read my Disneyland Halloween crowd guide before choosing your dates.
